I've never played a multiplayer game before because I'm terrified of playing horribly and letting my team down.  Mass Effect 3 is my first multiplayer experience.  I'm at a decent level, but I still don't play too well.  I hope I find some nice players next time, because I got mocked and yelled at in the last game.

Come on, it's my first time, I'm playing on bronze, and we completed the mission. No use in namecalling.  I think I'm going to turn the voice chat off until my skills improve :(

Aww, I'd play with you! If you use PC, feel free to give me a shout.

I feel like we should organize some kind of group for training sessions - some high-level guys with mics take some newbies on a Bronze run, handing out tips and instructions between classes. Only I'm not sure that would be possible with rays of sunshine like BSN users (but I still love y'all anyway).

I'd be so in for this. I went from being a MP virgin to doing Silver with a full team extract while working with others and communicating over mics in a week or so I guess I know the learning curve.

Planning to take a crack at Gold soon.

I'm not complaining about the multiplayer, I'm wondering about the people playing it. Has anybody else noticed that these forums are a lot more aggressive than most other forums? You say one thing that somebody disagrees with and they all start ganging up on you and flaming at you. Are these the people that we want to play with?

The people who played the demo: What was it like for you guys? Did the people on there seem friendly or helpful?

Not only this, but what about trolls? There are people who will teamkill on most games just for the fun of it.  Is there team killing in the demo for multiplayer?

That is true, and I feel the same way. I thought because ppl here are mainly interested in Bioware games, playing with them, and sharing my experience with being a fan of the same thing would be alot more pleasent than say those who play multi just from BF3's early access. And I still hold true to that, but I see it still has its fair shares of haters/flamers/fanboys/trolls/die-hard "know-it-alls", etc......Meh. Sometimes I think going fully-solo(my original plan, before coming here) is the way to go.

But I still love these forums(I find myself coming here every day ) and I love getting to know some of the devs of my favourite game when I can. It is also alot tamer than other screwed up websites I've been to(like that f-ing cess-pool, Youtube).

As for the multi, I cant tell you much because I'm pretty much waiting for the full game before I go on an unlocking-spree.

P.S Pls no one get offended and take this comment personally, I'm just telling how I experienced it.  :P

i've had pretty good matches so far. i'm not an amazing player but i'm improving as i go. this is the first mp game i play on console (usually on pc) :D and some players have been very supportive, but most of them don't have mics.

BUT...is there a mute option for the ps3? i'm fine with playing public matches but then i come across those with a mic and you can hear them talk AND the echo from their game. it gets reallyyyyy noisy and i couldn't stand it so i had to quit :(

Its the internet. Been this way for oh...since the internet.

Havent had an issue in game, played with many cool people, and the rest...they just never talked anyway.

Text chat doesn't exist in this game.

Also I wish I would get more challenge from other players, I always end up having by far the most points, both in silver and bronze.

I always say Hello. I'm always mic'd and willing to help. I prefer communication on team play. I met a few cool peeps, but most seemed tight lipped or afraid to talk. I hope that changes

Its not a competition. If I have someone on my team who is really good, I just try and help them out by keeping their flanks clear, doing the objectives etc. rather than going for points.

This indeed. For me, the action of helping a teammate out of a rough spot or simply contributing to the fight is far
more satisfying than rabidly trying to rack up the most kills. I wouldn't mind partying up with y'all some time :wizard:

Okay, this might sound TOTALLY random but I was gonna choose my BSN name as 'PandaAvenger' lol
Anywayyys, I agree! I'm more of a support player so I may not have the most kills, but hey, at least everyone survives through to wave 11 and get credits! Win!

With no chat it's hard to say whether people are being friendly or not. For the most part, my experience has been mostly positive. People stick together and cooperate. I see a few lone wolfs who like to go off on their own, probably thinking that killing things by themselves make a difference which it doesn't, and they usually get facerolled by a phantom or something and end up leaving. I've only heard voice comms a few times and it was only ever to prod someone in the lobby to hit ready.

People have seemed friendly enough in pugs. Mostly because no one has really talked using the VOIP.

So far, I didn't have any problems with my teammates. We work great together even though we never speak before ^^ We even managed to survive few rounds of silvers (no mics) during yesterday's marathon. Only chat through origin menu usually for commenting on funny/crazy moments.

The points are shared, I think. I don't mind other people getting higher points than me. Surviving together for me is much more fun. I always try my best to cover the flanks or pick off unaware enemies while other players cause chaos. The feeling of cloaking and saving your teammates at a critical moment is very satisfying (provided the situation is safe or there are less dangerous enemies around them).

99.9% of the time the people you'll meet ingame are nothing like what you see on the forums.

The sad truth is most of the negativity on the forums come from people who spend most (if not all) of their time on the forums and none in the game itself

I like to stick in a group with people but sometimes when i see a opening to take a few guys out by myself I go for. But i find myself making the most mistakes on MP when trying to get the objectives done because I just want the credits so i can unlock the quarian engineer and finally try that build out. Just find the Quarian to have the best MP engineer build from my view lol.

As for the chatting, only time i get to chat is when i am with a group of my friends. Always end up running with people without mics on quick starts or public and I dont play Silver unless I know the team can communicate which is with my friends on the most part. I can do alright on Silver if i am with my friends but i dont trust my skills when i cant trust that the non-mic person has my back when i fall due to me making the most common mistakes on this game lol.

Most people don't talk in game, but I did join one group mid-match after somebody left and heard one of them say the guy rage quit. Whatever. I got in with my lvl 15 eng and started playing. After a wave or two I started to hear two of them complain about me kill stealing. I wasn't miked up at the time and just continued playing while the two complained and said I was ruining their fun. When evac time came I was just outside the zone killing bad guys and they were whining we weren't going to get cred for full evac, so I went and hid behind crates with the rest of them after I did a heavy melee attack to the guy that was complaining about me. He said I was being cute, and I left the game after that.

Last ime I checked you still get xp for assists and if you do more damage you get more xp on a downed enemy. All I was doing was my part - breaking down defenses and distracting enemies with the drone. I didn't die once and revived one of them.

Anyways point is don't grief or troll for no reason. As long as somebody isn't a burden keep the coments positive over voice chat and you will be a good squaddie.

Rule #1 - Play with a mic, and be a good teammate (which is darn simple if you follow the golden rule of "do unto others as you would have done unto yourself)

Rule #2 - See Rule #1, as its the only major rule you need for an enjoyable experience.

Having played since the 14th release date on Xbox 360 (GT: Strategy101), I've quickly found a handful of players who I never met before the demo, but already have committed to playing together in the full game multiplayer... heck one dude I've actually spent hours just chatting with and I'm usually not a chatty person.

Mass Effect is something you'll already have in common with everyone who is playing, and its an AWESOME thing to have in common, so thats an icebreaker right there. From there all you have to do is just play like a good teammate (which doesnt require elite skills... at least beyond following the directions of the skilled leaders), and act like a decent human being (or whatever race you decide to play ;) ) and you'll quickly find yourself with plenty of great people to play with.

I cannot stress enough how important VOICE CHAT is, I realize some people are shy, but you dont have to crawl that far out of your shell to make a decent connection with other people... all it takes is a few words followed by actions that back up those words.

To make a long story shorter... No, I'm not in the least bit concerned about the friendliness.

I don't use a mic for 99% of the games I'm in (which means I only use a mic with friends) because otherwise I would get frustrated and yell at noobs and such. I have little patience for them depending on the game type, usually they are just asking for a loss.

And I can't stand talking to ME noobies that walk all over the lore like idiots who know nothing about anything.  I don't even bother to correct them, its just not worth it.

I'd say ppl online have been mostly friendly, i try to revive but if you go running into a death trap trying to down everyone with a lvl 3 vanguard don't expect me to come running after you lol. Just had a match with a 1-1 and i tried my best to make it a good experience for him/her, just by not stealing kills at the last second and reviving mostly. We did make it to wave 10 with just the two of us so...

No, obligatory mic is an intrusion to privacy, either text chat or voice command system like in Killing Floor.

Its only an intrusion of privacy if you consider it that way.  Most people don't care.
