Is it just me or does it feel like the Infiltrator's heavy melee takes FIVE MINUTES!?!

Its just you. And i also approve that using a sniper rifle is COUNTER productive on salarian infiltrator. I sport a Carnifex X and i can drain shields and proceed to headshot any opponent that isn't armored. Guardians are easy once you learn how to shoot through the mailslot and you can kill heavy armored opponents just about if not faster with carnifex and spamming cloak with each reload cycle as with the widow.

Max out Cloak with a focus on the following in terms of priority: recharge time, damage/sniper bonus, duration. I forgot what the specific tradeoffs along the way are. For the last one though pick sniper bonus over the additional power bonus.

Max out energy drain however you want. I picked the 100% synthetic option along the way, so now when I'm facing a horde of enemies and there's an Atlas, I get my full shield back by energy draining it and continuing to fire. Obviously this helps with the Geth. You're going to be weaker against the Reapers, but face it, Infiltrators are relatively poor against the Reapers compared to adepts for example.

Skip proximity mine entirely. Max out the STG training thing with a focus on weapon damage. Max out fitness with a focus on shields and health.

Then during fights, use cloak offensively to snipe as it will give you insane amounts of extra damage. Since it recharges so quickly, yo ucan just as easily leave to help a downed teammate or do an objective. The energy drain can be used as much as a defensive as offensive power, and it's saved me more times than I can count.

I like the SI with maxxed everything but no points into proximity mine - I just don't see that as particularly useful on this character (vs, say a geth).

4/6/6/6/4

Cloak for damage, prox mine for radius debuff and damage, energy drain for radius shields restored and armor boost (maybe damage), passive for weapon damage and all shields for fitness. Carry a claymore and shoot everything.

For sniping : 6/6/6/6/0 is optimal build, you're an infiltrator, you're not supposed to be taking the shots so fitness doesn't matter. However if you really wanted you could swap that last point in Proxy for 3 points in fitness.

I go 45665 and take the saber, black widow and/or reegar

Cloak: damage
PM: radius, damage taken
ED: damage, shield restore, damage
Passive: up to personal preference
Fitness: health/shields, shield recharge

Something like this is my build:

For CQC work I would use a Claymore or something. Use prox mine with radius / 15% dmg taken specced. You can bring a sidearm pistol for the occasional long range situation

For long range work, I would use something like a Black Widow.

Remember weight doesn't matter much with Infiltrators as long as soon as you cloak you shoot / energy drain / prox mine. So speccing into weight reduction on an infiltrator seems pretty strange. Because tac cloak should immediately come back up as long as you do this correctly.

There really is lots of ways you can build this guy. I usually only carry one major gun (black widow or shotgun). I also bring a sidearm heavy pistol.

Best build:
Tactical - all to damage, stealth using ability is useless (details later).
Mines - 0, you dont need them at all, too low damage and small radius.
Energy drain - max damage.
Training - all to damage, headshots and last depending on preferable sniper rifle:
Viper/Mantis - damage, Widiow - bonus to weght
Fitness - all leftovers to shields.

With that build you ll oneshot weak guys and oneheadshot sentinels and nemesis right through shields (at least at silver).

Main trick: cooldown for cloack start when you use it and SECONDS LATER after shooting, so you have few seconds to use of energy drain for free, it is helpfull in case of miss or bonus damage at tough targets.

So you cloak->shoot->energydrain and cooldown will be only from cloak. I played with widow-rifle, cloak recharging as long as reloading, one basic enemy kill per cooldown, atlas (silver) going down on 5-6 comboshots, phantom - 3 comboshots to body or 1,5 at head (could finish either by shot or drain). One body comboshot to guardian at gold (bullet like 85% damage and energy drain is finisher).

Moreover if there are engeneers in your tem you ll make technical blast with energy drain, further maximising possible dps (Atlas going down realy fast even at gold).

I think currently it is most damaging ranged race-class.

Proxy Mines are just too good not to take IMO.. It is one of the best damage amplifyer skill out there and it staggers mooks...  If you're going to be sniping you can leave fitness out because the SI has a lot of tools for survival TC and ED, he is not as squishy as other infils like HI or QFI and etc...
For Sniper build go 6/6/6/6/0 or 6/5/6/6/3 if no fitness is too squishy for you.. For TC I personally like Duration over Damage makes him more flexible and makes the disable 4 things objective easier, For Proxy mine always pick Damage taken..
Also it should be cloak>ED>shoot. That way you won't be screwed by shield gate on Gold it also kills any minor shielded enemy on gold. For armored targets Cloak>Proxy Mine>Shoot might be tricky vs Dragoons but if you can pull it of it is more damaging than te ED combo
For SG build go 4/6/6/6/4 this is where Proxy Mines is more usefull than ED.. Cloak>Proxy Mine>shoot = dead non-boss enemy...

Totally agree with you, but you do realize that the build suggested by ErlK1ng is 9 months old, dating from the demo days when almost nobody knew what debuffs were?
