Dude... A warriorless party is a cakewalk. I've got Hawke (A mixed bag mage, some force, primal, and a heal.) Anders (Mixed, heal, force, and spirit) Merril (Mixed, force, spirit, primal, and looking at some bits of blood) with Isabella as a dual wield "tank". Oh, all 3 mages carry elemental weapons active, and each gets a different type of staff. I have boost of fire, cold, and lightning on everybody. :)

I have the exact same party and it really is powerful. I have Rock Armor on all three mages, heal on Anders along with firestorm, tempest, cone of cold, same for my fem Hawke mage, with most of force mage too. Merrill has fireball. tempest and cone of cold along with some spirit and primal, no blood mage though.

The most fun is having the mages cast cone of cold, followed by fireball then tempest, and Isabela cleans up with maxed out backstab and stealth moves.

I managed to make it through MotA on nightmare with Isabella, Tallis, Merrill, and a rogue archer Hawke, though it was a bit of a chore at times. Merrill with stone armor and ~50 constitution can take some damage, and with three rogues you can take down most problem enemies almost instantly (Horrify, two twin fangs and an assassinate does a lot of damage.)

Would be very interested in knowing the "cheat" spoken of by DARKAMARANTH1966 that would allow me to play mage Hawke and keep Bethany because personally Carver is a tool and I usually end up killing him off at the end of Act 1

Having played for a year, I’ve just tried 3 mages and Varric (nightmare), definitely the best team build ever, they blitzkrieg through everything.

Hawk and Anders both have haste (50% attack speed) so the party is attacking 50% faster most of the time, very deadly, concentrated on 1 enemy at a time, takes them down in seconds.

Also up until now I’ve always used fire resist items on my team to protect them from friendly fire, but noticed the only time I lost the whole team was by AOE spirit attacks, so now I equip the team with spirit resist runes, huge difference, even the fight at the alter in MOTA was completed in record time.

Yeah, the 3 mage 1 rogue setup is pretty powerful. Pretty much anything on dual haste is amazing. I generally prefer dropping aoes on things and setting off walking bomb explosions etc rather than focusing on one enemy at a time (since you can take down multiple enemies in seconds), but I suppose it doesn't really work as well in crowded situations like that sky horror fight.

But if you think mage hawke is powerful, try DW hawke on dual haste (using bethany and anders). You get unparalleled single target dps and can set off loads more CCCs.
lol here's that sky horror fight you mentioned using a DW:
