I have a few questions for you guys and some comments on my thoughts about the demo.

If you're sitting at 20,000 credits and looking to unlock a character, is the better choice to go with a veteran pack or four recruit packs?  I've had more luck with veteran packs but wanted to know how other people were faring.  I've unlocked two characters with about 10-15 veteran packs and none with probably 20-25 recruit packs.

I've been having a problem where if I finish a game with say an infiltrator and decide to switch to vanguard, the hotkey abilities are missing and I have to use shift to access them.  Is there a way to fix this without either quitting or playing out the round and restarting multiplayer?

As infiltrator, how do you deal with multiple phantoms on silver or gold?  I usually go with the mantis sniper and the locust smg.  Generally I lead my team in kills and score but have a hard time with phantoms although one phantom I can usually take out by myself.

On that matter, I feel like an infiltrator with decent marksmanship and someone with a stasis ability can shred through virtually any enemy.  The few times I've won on silver have always been when someone had stasis and I could easily headshot high level enemies like phantoms.  I'm not saying that this combo is OP but just food for thought and trying to encourage real teamplay.

Also, is it just me or is the text chat not working?  It would be great to be able to communicate with people before the game starts (and during) for those of us who don't have a mic or don't want to use it.

Maybe this is just me but I feel like the Atlas could use a buff.  It's quite easy to take out especially on bronze with rockets being able to one shot it.  Even on silver if everyone has two rockets (which they should, I've had two every single game I've played with every class) there are enough rockets to go around to one shot virtually every Atlas.
The first time I played multiplayer and saw one of these things I thought "Oh ****, a mech! We are so ****ed" but after beating it I was unimpressed.  The only time they are really any dangerous is if there are multiple ones like in silver and gold or if there is a crapload of enemies around it.

Obviously an unsupported mech should go down without too much of a problem but even if there are a decent number of enemies I feel like all you have to do is just watch and make sure it doesn't get you with its rocket launcher.  Perhaps a higher firing rate with less damage on its gun so it can suppress as well as deal out damage?  In addition I think it should take at least two rockets to take one down so you only get easy mode on one Atlas per person.  Obviously if it gets buffed the number of Atlas' in higher game modes might need to be cut down but I feel like it would bring more of the indimidation factor as well.

About the recruit packs - For human characters, recruit, for aliens, veteran. There was a thread on this a couple days ago you might've missed on what you should expect in your packs

As for multiple phantoms - you shouldn't expect to be able to kill more than one completely alone without having to retreat and reengage. The widow does allow you to handle them quite quickly, though, assuming headshots. Having a player with stasis or overload on the team helps tremendously.

Infiltrators can deal with an Atlas much more effectively than many other classes if only because you can force it to fight on your own terms at all times. So, yes, you're pretty much correct in thinking they feel easy. They're not as easy for other classes, and neither are turrets; however, generally phantoms aren't quite as much of a pain.

The hotkey thing is a bug for when you switch characters in a lobby. Exit the lobby, switch characters, then rejoin the game.
