I wouldn't call that thing in the CGI trailer a kid...

Bioware doesn't have to worry about me though.  I am emotionally invested 100% already.

Its a common mechanic, since children are universally seen as "innocent" so when they die, we immediately associate it with "killing of innocents," and yes that gives a larger impact on our psyche than if it were an adult. So much so, that games wont even allow the player to kill kids in them.

At this point I expect another "emotionally engaging" moment where an old lady with a stretcher is trying to outrun a husk.

Clearly the only way to make people feel emotional is to have one of the main character's sycophants die.

Appeal to the audiences' narcissism Bioware.

I think Bioware should make stronger attempts... and have the Geth betray you, with Legion laughing his ass off at your stupidity... while he slowly kills Garrus, Tali, and Liara.

No, I say we sacrifice one of its detractors. Which organ can you do without?

More children should die. If it were up to me, that shuttle would've been filled with annoying ass kids to be exploded.

Honestly, if the Reapers blew up a school bus there would probably be less of an issue.

I'm hoping Green Asari girl from ME1 turns out to be indoctrinated still and rewards your believing her with a kick to the head (come on, all paragon decisions can't be 100% good all the time).

@Major League:
Anyone notice how people make stupid posts about 'killing kids', when if they stopped and thought about if for more than the impulsive 3 seconds it took to mash out that string of text, that it's obvious if you have a heart, to notice that killing of those whom are defenseless (children) and weak/debilitated (elderly) stirs the protective side of those whom DO have a heart and want to protect those in need. No? Unsurprising.

@Medhia Nox:
If you care about others besides yourself, which is the driving force behind CDR Shepard and those whom are like-minded to him/her should not need the reinforcement of the death of a child and those that tried to rescue him to want them o fight harder, but such are the things in a war, and especially one whom is so one-sided in the opening moments of the demo.

It has nothing to do with Narcissism, which in truth makes no sense for you to even reference in this context.

@Nageth: That's really emotional! We should add it.

OH... I know - we should have one of Shepard's siblings get killed by an ogre in the first ten minutes of ME 3.

The ONLY way to appeal to a video game players "emotions" - is to appeal to his weak sense of self-worth. Take away the things he's "acquired" in game - notably LI... and he's cry delicious tears of anguish.

Putting in scenes that should evoke an emotional response - but don't directly alter the main character - will never work, because everyone's a hard ass on their sofa.

I wonder what Liara's screams would sound like... or what Tali's brains would look like smashed all over the pavement of some bombed out street... ohh.. or what the sound crunching carapace makes when a Cerberus mech stomps down on Garrus.

I didn't really care, that kid was pretty stupid and had a bad voice actor anyways. If they wanted to make us emotional, they would have probably killed off that stupid kid's dog or something.
