I know it's a bit hard to see but a Krogan "Grab" move is the same as the other classes but instead he needs no omni-tool. He just smashes their head off with his fist. It's amazing.

I do this with the Asari adept all the time. She doesn't use an omni tool either. it's perfect for killing phantoms and nemesis. Shields don't matter when you do it.

Wasn't a Phantom for me, but my most satisfying grab was me playing a Vanguard and then snooping that stupid Engineer right away from his precious turret. I hate turrets. The krogan one is the best. Krogan fist + Face + Pavement = awesome splat.
 
I'm eager to see what happens when they do it to a geth.

The hilarious thing is that you actually don't! You hit the Melee button when the "grab" icon appears. Insta-mole-whack.

It works on any enemy that takes cover like you do. Phantoms IIRC don't actually take cover, they just cloak and hide somewhere, or just hide behind a piece of cover like you would if you don't press the action button.

Enemy doesn't have to be taking cover for it to work, they just have to be close to the other side. Phantoms to actually take cover directly, often, when there Barriers fail them and they go cloak. They can't be grabbed either taking cover or just 'standing' in there crouched stance though. There to ninja-y for it.
