Not really. If I were new to Mass Effect, I'd think it were another "aliens invade the Earth" story.

I think you need to stop reading spoilers and wait for the game itself.

This a million times this.

After the demo I was done paying attention to any of it.  I'm not watching any more trailers or whatever else they release.

The simple truth is if you get caught up in everything they release to draw in the new players then nothing would be fun anymore because their not marketing to us because they already have us.

I agree with the OP. I think the CGI trailer should have been a stat-tree masturbation fest.

It's ok Matt. Your negativity is likely from the many negative threads on the site. Soon we should see some reviews and we will see. I'm still psyched for the game

Well, if you were new to ME then it probably would just be another "aliens invade the earth" story.

Let's not forget that the marketing isn't going to be gearing itself towards people who are already invested in the series, because the chances are that they are going to buy it anyway. The marketing is always going to be geared toward bringing in new players, and if that means explosions then so be it.

Well, it sorta is isnt it.  You cant show everything that leads up to what happens in me 3 in a 90 second trailer.  There's a limit to how much Bioware can do to bring people up to speed, imo.

The past two games capitalized on it's "humanity" and the sturggle of different people coming together.

Have you ever seen the CGI trailers for Mass Effect 2 or the Dragon Age games. If so then you should know that they're always about high action, and don't advertise the story at all.

The series has been building up to a show down against the Reapers for the last two games. What exactly did you expect that to mean, besides all out war?

This is easily the most out of touch, whiny, self-entitled forum I've had the displeasure of browsing. You guys complain about literally EVERYTHING. I remember people whined about "ME2" wasn't like "ME1".....now I see some of the same people crying that "ME3" won't be like "ME2". Truth be told you guys don't know what the f*ck you want, and in the end what does it matter because you're just going to say "HERP DERP EA IS TO BLAME LOLZ" no matter what you're told.

And before someone says "oh, well, that's the nature of forums and the internet in general"....no, it's not. I've been using the internet since the 90s and this forum is by far the worst when it comes to this type of stuff.

The game is what it is. It's done. They aren't changing the marketing, or the FOV, or anything. If you are seriously this upset over it, don't buy it. And if you are upset enough not to buy it, I don't understand what there is to talk about.

Head over to Diablo 3 forums, someone posted earlier today they cried because of some change that did not seem so bad to me. This forum seems to pale in comparison.....not by much though.

What was so bad about the ****ing trailer? Really? Can't you people appreciate anything? It's the war for Earth, war for the galaxy, everyone si facing extinction for ****s sake so what do you expect to see in a trailer of a game like that?

op probably expects a 5 million dollar star wars cgi budget.

i mean seriously the trailer was fine and i do really think people can be ungratefull alot.

I think many simply don't understand what it's about. I'm pretty sure the op means that there is no artfully crafted emotional experience being presented here. It's all about in your face action. Movies like the Transformers series show that you can throw a hundred explosion at the audience but it doesn't make it cooler, it takes away impact. If you only see action without anything inbetween to give it meaning, it becomes dull.

The op is not complaining about visual quality or lack of budget, I'm pretty sure of that.
Not even the GoW trailers are just BAM BAM BAM ACTION IN YO FACE! In fact they are quite the opposite, which creates anticipation.
EA is trying too hard and underestimate the complexity of what makes action appealing. So far none of the marketing actually tried to create emotional attachment. For a series like ME, that is unfortunate, and it reflects the direction EA is pushing their games.

We shall see about the full CGI trailer. I'm quite looking forward to it.
EDIT: whoops, Didn't know the trailer is out yet.

Not entirely sure what you expect from a 2 minute trailer but if you don't have that "connection" after 2 games than thats not the trailers fault.

While I liked the latest take back the earth trailer (except for that kid, major uncanney valley there) I have to say it really didn't fit the crow it was attatched to.

Walking dead viewers watch the show for the slow (but well paced) series where action is in short bursts between long dialogue scenes that build tension, or set the tone for the story.

The trailer was all pew pew and nothing the walking dlead crowd would usually enjoy. IMO bioware missed a great opportunity for a very different kind of trailer that would have fit both us forum goers who want to see more marketing to us, as well as bringing in new fans that hold onto the walking dead style.

The problem... was your expectations. You invented something... gave it value... and put your belief in that false value - and now you're afraid that the value will be revealed as false.

But you can't blame ME 3... the value was given to the series by you (and others) - and was always false.

BTW -this is a pretty solid suggestion for future life endeavors. Always be aware of your expectations... and don't let them get out of hand.

Or then you'll into some cynical bastard who thinks he's got the "real" score on how the world works... and anyone who isn't a curmudgeon just doesn't understand yet.

Reality is... "they" were wrong and they discovered they were wrong... so now they're bitter.

Best to avoid that outcome in the future - I'd recommend changing your expectations of the value of video games in general.

So because I put value in the expectation that they wouldn't f*ck up their entire franchise and stick to the concept they were going with...it's my fault they may have made a shoddy product?
It's completely and utterly my fault that they chose to choke on EA's c*ck and appeal to the Call of Duty market, and I was expecting something more?

None of Biowares CGI trailers have ever actually had anything to do with the game at all.... so why people are complaining about them I honestly don't know. The closest would be the TOR trailers that were actually kind of backstory. The dragon age trailers had nothing to do with the actual game the cinematic trailer for mass effect 2 also had tons of stuff that wasnt in the actual game.
