The problem... was your expectations. You invented something... gave it value... and put your belief in that false value - and now you're afraid that the value will be revealed as false.

But you can't blame ME 3... the value was given to the series by you (and others) - and was always false.

BTW -this is a pretty solid suggestion for future life endeavors. Always be aware of your expectations... and don't let them get out of hand.

Or then you'll into some cynical bastard who thinks he's got the "real" score on how the world works... and anyone who isn't a curmudgeon just doesn't understand yet.

Reality is... "they" were wrong and they discovered they were wrong... so now they're bitter.

Best to avoid that outcome in the future - I'd recommend changing your expectations of the value of video games in general.

So because I put value in the expectation that they wouldn't f*ck up their entire franchise and stick to the concept they were going with...it's my fault they may have made a shoddy product?
It's completely and utterly my fault that they chose to choke on EA's c*ck and appeal to the Call of Duty market, and I was expecting something more?

Just as maturaly handled as the other guy you responded to

'Splosions. Boobs. Cooldowns. Yay.

Now I'm at his level.

No I think your choking on the c*ck metaphor was just fine

Good, good, I was worried I might have been getting too mature for a minute there.

It pisses me off that you people blame EVERYTHING on EA. Did you ever think that maybe, JUST MAYBE, Bioware is intelligent, and uses marketing to their advantage? Explosions are going to attract bigger crowds. That's a fact. Being in the gaming industry is EXACTLY like every other industry. It's about money. You have to attract fans. Stop whining and b*tching about how EA is ruining the game. The only thing they're responsible for is Alliance/Cerberus Network. Just get over yourselves, and shut up. We all know you're going to buy the damn game anyway.

I would have agreed with you if this topic was created after the VGA trailer... then I was angry with the lack of quality of the marketing so far... and that trailer was the worst of all.
.
But since then the quality have been going up... we got amazing trailer like the James Vega feature and the femshep trailer.
.
This is also a cut for television, the full version will be much better paced and more fitting for appealing to ME fans, as it will shows some Earth colonies and not just explosions.

I think you're letting BSN's negativity get to you OP. I have my reservations about the writing I've seen so far, but the truth is none of us have any control over ME3's story, which is finished and done. Fretting about it won't do you or anyone else any good.

If nothing else I'm sure it will be better than ME2. It's not like the whole game can be "We fight or we die, derp!!"

Edit: I have to agree with you though that the marketing strategies they've been using have been, quite frankly, embarrassing to watch.

I remember a whole bunch of negativity surrounding ME2 just prior and just after release. Not enough RPG elements, not enough exploration, can't turn the helmets off, the story wasn't as epic, etc. Even after having thoroughly enjoyed playing ME2, reading this board almost had me convinced I hated it simply because if almost an entire message board hates a product, how can it possibly be any good?

Seems fairly well regarded now. Strange how that works.

About the marketing....well, people like you and I and the majority of people here are already big fans of Mass Effect, and so are already practically guaranteed customers (give or take a few people who didn't like Mass Effect 2, but Bioware's call-outs to the return of weapon mods and deeper RPG elements is meant to placate those individuals). Marketing is supposed to draw in new demographics, in this case the "KABLOOM" crowd, as you called them.

I for one thought the CGI trailer was amazing.

What would you have them show in a marketing trailer, Shepard agonising over choosing the 2nd evolution of his Warp talent? Gripping stuff there boyo!

It's safe to say that if you're posting on the BSN forums you're not the target audience of their aggressive marketing campaign.

OP the trailer is merely meant to showcase the conflict in which you will be taking part of and that the series has been leading up to.

If they showed romance related content or something else, they would run the risk of spoiling something about the game, which they got a lot of flak for in ME2.

Don't let negativity bring you down. Keep you expectations at a base level and you'll be fine. ^_^

The trailer and marketing/demo is aimed at new fans.

Gutting the demo to just be shooty shooty for CoD people is proof of that.
