I bet there'll be more than one way to stop them, with that in mind, that Shepard VI i picked up on the citadel total plot plant, can't wait it'll be the most awesome 'i love it when a plan comes together' moment ever.

I'am pretty sure the plot is going to be something like "repears destroy all life because it could expand too much and destroy the universe blablablabla", then you discover that the protheans had created a way to stop them all by putting a virus in their mothership or something of the sort(a super weapon basicly).Thing is, said mothership is protected by most of the reaper fleet (and over heart of course, because hey we need to take earth back),so you need all the fleets in the galaxy to hold the line long enought for the normandy to get close, and then drop shepard.Meanwhile the illusive man is fighting you because he got endocrtinated after ME 2, either because of the base that you left intact, or because he salvaged reaper parts of what was left of it (made a copy of the iff just before you left, in case you failed).

The Crucible is a powerful asset, but not a war winner. Hence why you have to recruit all the allies you can.

It sounds like all the races you recruit will help to construct the Crucible. Meaning the more allies you have, the quicker it gets finished, and the sooner you can launch your count erattack and end the war before more irreperable damage is done to the galaxy and its citizens.

The Reapers are each as large as several dreadnoughts and pack powerful shields and massive firepower. I imagine the point of the Crucible is to make the playing field more even. Shepard and his armies will still have to make the right decisions.

I imagine its possible to win the war without the Crucible, but that'll probably yield a more undesireable ending. Meaning either the Reapers will be forced to retreat or 95% of the Galaxy's life will be dead and everything will be in ruins.

There's supposedly also a bad ending where the Reapers win. And who knows, maybe there'll be an ending where Cerberus succeeds in indocrinating them and puts humanity in control of the Galaxy, enslaving the other races.

Read Mass Effect: Evolution.

The Illusive Man was touched by Reaper tech looong before their existence was discovered in the galaxy. That's how he got those glowing eyes.

Before knowing anything about The Crucible, I always imagined a "shoot the tentacles to open the core" followed by "hit the weak spot for massive damage" scenario.

From what I understand about the Rannoch mission, this isn't too far-fetched.

I agree, even the most delicious raisons will not persuade the Reapers to end their invasion/genocide.

Goosebumps everytime I hear that frelling speech.  I think it's going to end in one epic space battle.  In my mind, I picture Turian battle cruisers launching pods into Reapers.  These pods filled with krogan and asari commando boarding parties.  Geth and quarian ships ravaging Reapers apart.  Humans, turians, geth, asari, and krogan forces on the ground on Earth, giving the smackdown to Reaper ground forces.Aerial battles above of geth, turian, and human fighters kicking some Reaper ass.

All I know is 6 months before the invasion starts (end of ME2), Shepard and the galaxy as a whole have no clue how to stop them (just like the end of ME1, no progress made in the story arc). And somehow you'll have to find a way to stop these things which more advanced civilizations in the past, including the Protheans, could not stop. Something tells me whatever the solution, it will be quite cheesy. Maybe Shepard uses his "essence" to turn into a human reaper and fights them all hand to hand.

On that subject, I gather that much of what remained of Sovereign went missing, and he had armor (well, shielding) and weapons superior to a few whole fleets.
