What did they do in ME1 that was 'insanely evil' ?

Do yourself an enormous favor and play ME1. They practically set up the sequel to have Cereberus as the enemy, then OMG plot twist, then it happens in 3.

It said in each Extinction the reapers choose one race to "use". It's quite possible that TIM brokered a deal with the Reapers, and some subtle indoctrination has turned him. For example he got his hands on his Reaper technology and through indoctrination believes he is controlling a Reaper, however it i actually controlling him, and via proxy his company.

Go pickup Mass Effect: Evolution, it covers something similar to this but I am not going into details other than that.

I'm gonna say it now the Illusive man will be the reason why we beat the reapers.

You have been greatly deceived.

He might be right. I would hold off on any judgement until after 06MAR2012.

comic books aren't canon, they are simply official fan fiction.

The books are treated as "canon" lostgenius, so why not the only piece of fiction that gives us a picture of the Illusive Man before he became the Illusive Man? I think cerberus will be integral to destroying the reapers. Think Lord of the Rings, and the gollum factor; sure gollum was evil and twisted, but he was one of the most important players in the destruction of the Ring; even if it was not his intention. I think Illusive Man is after a power grab; it's even possible that he knew about humans being converted to a Reaper. Whatever that power grab is, I suspect that turning it to your advantage will be a key factor in destroying the Reapers.

Ok, please don't parallel this to The Lord Of The Rings, you are ruining the immersion. Cereberus is so easily corruptible its not even funny.

According to a recent game informer magazine, TIM explains on Mars that he is...

***SPOILER ALERT***

...attempting to control the reapers

***END SPOILER***

So he may well be important in stopping the reapers.

I was guessing this plot point, except its the Reaper's that are actually controlling him. Keyword "attempting" :wizard:

Actually, you are wrong. The comic is meant to explain more of TIM's history and backgound and the last I checked, TIM was part of the ME canon. I am also pretty sure that Mac Walters is more than just a fan but if you want to consider something written by the lead writer for ME3 as fan fiction I guess there could be wrose. I could be wrong as he could hate the whole ME franchise...

It's not canonical because it does not occur in the main storyline. Comics/books are simply franchises used to cash in on the games popularity.

You know what is a spoiler??? It's what you have actually seen or heard and you then tell everybody to SPOIL their experience. You, my friend OP, just posted your theory that has more holes than swiss cheese

Nevertheless I agrree with you in one thing. The scheme. First ME started with a video footage of a reaper. The third one starts with it too. Also a human planet is attacked in both cases. Do you guys see more schemes??

Noticing the weird pupils of TIM, and as we never saw him in person (atleast in ME games), I assume it is possible him being a projection, AI of some sorts. His creators may very well be Reapers, Protheans, or some other civilization we know barely anything about.

Returning squadmate's from ME1 in the beginnig of ME3 as well, very strong similarities. I'm replaying 1-2 right now. Also Series Breaking Spoilers is very official for 1-2, which are plot points that would ruin the game for newbs, and my theory is likely accurate. We can keep this thread going until we find out for sure.

How about the aliens called "Cannibals" that we fight in the beginning of the demo. Place holder names? They looked a lot like the Shadow Broker...theories?

Cannibals are husked batarians. The Shadow Broker was Yahg, and that species is also to be encountered husked in ME3.

By that logic Miranda is also a AI or that she is controled by reapers becuase we saw her with TIM:blink:

The audience has seen The Illusive Man in the flesh multiple times. If he turns out to not look like that at all?

Then the writers and animators have officially cheated

TiM is a schemer.

He's only faking the alliance with the reapers to get access to a particular device that is necessary to finish building the crucible.

And it is possible to resist the indoctrination. Saren proved this.

I wonder if TIM lost control over a part of his forces or not?

I know that there's a connection with the Collector Base, but I have not read the leaked stuff (and I don't want to). So, I've been able to avoid most of it so far, since I've only read a few comments here and there on the leaked stuff around the BSN.

Well haveing read the comics im going to give some insight about TIM.

*SPOILERS*
Ever wonder why Tim's eye's are blueish and a bit weird in Mass Effect 2?

Well he was actually affected by a reaper indoctrinating machine, which affected him but did not finish or well complete the indoctrinating which sort of half indoctrinated him. Possibly makeing him a bit machineish like the husk's but still more human, self aware and with apearently his own will intact.

This could mean that he has finnaly been indoctrined in Mass Effect 3 or he is an important piece because of this being half husk half human or whatever.

*Spoilers end*

Saren proved that you can't escape indoctrination.  He fooled himself, as has TIM.  Both think they can resist indoctrination, but Saren proved you can't... even in death.  Just remember what happened at the end of ME1.

Makes you think, hu?

I mean, what could the actions of TIM in ME2 mean... I'd say:

1) He was indoctrinated all along, and the reapers never wanted Shepard dead, so he brought her/him back because they actually need her/him to succeed... however that is possible.

2) Or he was fighting indoctrination and brought Shepard back as kind of a fail save in case he would loose this fight.
