The geth initially side with the Reapers, apart from Legion, who finds himself at odds with the rest of his people. As I understand it, their decision to side with the Reapers imight be a response to the present quarian aggression. Rewriting the Heretics to turn them away from the Reapers thus has the ironic side-effect of increasing the number of geth who ARE siding with the Reapers, it seems. Anyway, you have to end the quarian-geth conflict either in favor of one or (if you fulfill the conditions that make it possible) by bringing about a truce between them.
The specifics of how are rather vague at this point. The only thing I know is that rewriting the Heretics lessens your chances of peace, destroying them increases it, and managing to charm/intimidate Tali and Legion into cooperating in their little loyalty spat in ME2 increases your chances, as does clearing Tali's name without turning over the evidence of her father's experiment at the end of her loyalty mission.

From what I read, I think I understand how to do it quite well.
Also, what I read sounded like the Geth may have initiall chosen to ally with the Reapers, but are now indoctrinated.

And what is exactly wrong with having a happy ending? I'm neither american nor a kid and still prefer to have a good ending. I'm not a fanatic Paragon with a strict Justicar-like code but nevertheless prefer when things go well.Xayoz wrote...
Meh. I will be disappointed if you can have some 'everyone wins' option to resolving this conflict.
Then again, seeing as what direction Bioware's been going, you probably will.
I for once will be keeping far away from those paragon/renegade options in such occasions.
I still remember how in ME2, you could completely ruin the outcome of Talis loyalty mission by bypassing the awesome dilemma of having to choose between her exiled and humiliated.
It's such hard decisions that make you love rpgs.
But I guess Bioware also has to carter to all the american kids who will cry, least they have their happy endings.
I'm not saying I don't want anyone to die or else I'll cry my eyes out but in this case it is a perfectly logical conclusion that both species can be saved with diplomacy and a bit of thumping on the side if someone disagrees (if what Legion says is indeed true).
Don't like it? Feel free to blow one of them up. Many outcomes can exist, just because one of them doesn't fit your RPG style doesn't mean it's for 'amercian kiddies'.
