Hi, I'm starting an insanity playthrough for ME2 and I'm wondering what class would be best for insanity difficulty.
I'm not doing any of the DLC either if that helps.

I'm thinking of trying Soldier since I haven't played as soldier before and biotics wouldn't be much help since I have read that all enemies have shields.

I have done it with an Infiltrator, the slow-mo comes for free if you use a sniper rifle. You can also get an assaultrifle when you are one the alien ship, just pick it up instead of that horrible sniper rifle...

The cloak is quite useful, not only for dmg but also if you need to run -> flamer coming to close. but I think the best thing is that you can use your bild in slowmo and still have the cd free for say reinforcing shilds.

Anyhow no matter what classe you decide to play, make shure your squad is prepped for what comes. Especialy if you are taking on bosses or boss like encounters.

Just make shure you can crack Shilds/Bioshilds, Armor and possibly cc/aoe vs meels zombies when you need to.

Protections are easily dealt with. Vorcha with regen health are annoying compared to dealing with protections.

Also a Sentinel with Assault Armor can make Insanity a cake walk.

And there are plenty of viable builds for Insanity with any class actually

Soldier with Mattock and Adrenaline Rush is ridiculous, maybe even overpowered, but pretty fun if you're used to submachine guns and curving powers around cover. If you don't have the Firepower pack you might have to spend a lot of time hiding behind cover and trying to conserve ammo.

All enemies, even the lowliest varren, geth probes, and mechs have shields or armor. Adept's Singularity is really good for that, especially since Harbinger can be a real problem, but I felt it was much too repetitive.

Widow Soldier + Mattock + Geth Plasma Shotgun. True, I've only played on Hardcore, but I breeze through fights I remember having problems with on Normal with a Revenant Soldier. Mattock is just so powerful it renders heavy weapons obsolete.

Play what you like and know, all work well on Insanity if you know how to play. Soldier is probably the most straight forward and easiest, next is Sentinel and Infiltrator then finally Adept, Vanguard and Engineer because they all require learning how to play them.

Play what you know, but Soldier is easy enough to learn.

Despite what the cry babies said, biotics are quite useful and still powerful when used in a coherent strategy. But the squeaky wheels got the grease so in ME3 it is back to god mode as an Adept :)

Sentinel is really strong once you get to higher levels, and you have some fast CD powers such as Throw .. Plus reloading Tech Armor will instantly recharge all your squad's powers - not a minor advantage imo .

Thanks for the tips, I'm using a soldier now so hopefully won't have too much trouble since I already had the Mattock rifle.

I found Engineer to be the easiest on insanity, the drone is amazing along with incinerate and ai hacking. Problem with the class is it starts off weak, but by the mid teens it's great and just gets better.

Having done Soldier, Adept, and Infiltrator on insanity, I think Soldier is by far the easiest, but Widow or Mattock + Adrenaline Rush was so powerful it felt like cheating.

Mattock under Adrenaline Rush is practically cheating ;)

I don't know what the easiest class for me is since each one I subsequently played seemed like the easiest. The reason is after you learn the classes they are all balanced pretty well, especially if bonus powers are in the mix. Really as long as you have solid "fundamentals" and know the maps then you are set with any class.

As far as easiest to learn, then sure soldier is probably that class. The powers are all straightforward and there isn't quite as much risk. Sentinel also comes to mind, and I do think a "classic" infiltrator is not bad to pick up.

As others have stated, soldier with a mattock is practically cheating. It's really super fun though. For a shotgun, I'd recommend using the eviscerator or the geth plasma. The geth plasma shotgun (gps) is really great against anything with a lot of shields. So ymirs, gunships with shields.. etc. The eviscerator however is great against mechs, regular joes, etc. So it really depends on what you feel like using that mission. That's pretty much the only weapon I'd swap out depending on what type of a mission you're on.

Other than that.. your loadout for each mission will be
Assault Rifle: Mattock
Sniper Rifle: Widow (mantis before hand)
Shotgun: Evis or GPS (mission dependent)
Sidearm: Carnifex (personal preference, I know some people prefer the predator)

That loadout is pretty freakin ridiculous. You have a shotgun and assault rifle to destroy shields, and once you get down to armor, you have your widow. Soldier is great, because they really do have a weapon for every occasion.

This. The loadout is also interesting if you like to add a bit of role-playing to your fights, such as laying down supressing fire for your squad etc., which I like to do a lot. With that, the ammo can get pretty scarce in prolonged fights, so you are forced to switch between all these weapons (though as I said you kinda have to work for the ammo to end)
