Does the kissing/headbumps in ME2 offend you?

Kissing doesn't offend me, and I'm unaware of what "Headbump" refers to. As you may have guessed, I did precisely *one* romance, it was same-species, and hetero. Thus, I saw only Shep/Williams, and Shep/Miranda, and each only once.

After gaining the achievment, I did not pursue romance at all in subsequent replays, since to me it had no real relevance regardless and added nothing to the story.

Frankly, there were no women in ME1 or ME2 that interested me as a person. No character that embodied any woman I'd romance in real life.

So, do you personally feel that a graphical depiction of the sexual act is required to have an enjoyable romantic storyline?

In an adult work of fiction? Yes.

You are aware this game is rated M, right?

You know since you are so disgust there are other methods of getting that achievement (one with the console command) I don't see why BioWare should just do anything just because 1-2 people start to whine that they don't want sex scenes in the game.
Quite frankly you're being childish about this. If you are a full grown man you won't whine about things like that.

It is a simple concept. So far as you consider the scenes entirely in the realm of sexual or entertainment value. I try to see the scenes in the form of characterization value. I'll give a few examples.

Miranda- It had been heavily implied that she is rather controlling but not really explicitely shown. Since she's under Shepards command, and is discplined, you cannot actively show that side of her since Shepard will have the final say. However, when it comes to the sex scene she dictates the time, place, and immediatly takes the lead. Everything is controlled explicitely by her terms. This is important to her character.

Tali- During the scene we, perhaps for the first time, get to see Tali act once her insecurities are put to rest. For most of the games she's too worried about the fleet, her pilgrimage, or her ability to help with the mission. The fact she basically pounces Shepard once she's been reassured is a new window into her character that we hadn't been previously privy to.

These scenes can also serve to show changes made by Shepard's choices. If you approach Jack as a paragon the scene is far more touching and important to Jack as a character than may be immediatly implied.

Sometimes there's other ways to show these traits. Sometimes there isn't. But they are still very god windows into a character.

Wanted to quote this because it is exactly what I was trying to get at earlier. Sex scenes that are purely for titillation I can do without. Throw them in the game, remove them from it, I don't care so long as I don't have to sit through it . However, if those scenes give further insight into the character or help show how they've developed, then taking them out just because it makes some people blush (and I'll admit I'm often in that group) would be foolish.

Thanks! However, I'd consider this a game more than a work of fiction of any merit. For instance, "The Lord of the Rings" was and adult work of fiction. It contained romance. It contained zero sex. Good story too, inspired a whole genre, several movies, etc.

The "headbump" refers to the Garrus romance scene, where the only thing that happens is they have a funny little chat and walk closer to each other, only to exchange a headbump.

Here you go: headbump

This is the entire "romance" scene and does not qualify as porn by any stretch of the imagination. Seriously, embracing might have been nice.:?

Kissing fangs protected by metallic mandibles probably isn't the most pleasant experience in the world.

The headbump refers to the "consumation" of the Garrus romance. The characters touch heads.

If you don't find any of the women romanceable, that's great for you.  if you don't like the scenes, skip them.  Other people do find them romanceable, and find that the romance, sex and all, adds to their stories.  All the more power to them.

More choice in an RPG is always the way you want to go.

There aren't any fangs in the front, though the splintered lip plate might snag. :pinched:

Well, actually, where *I* want to go is someplace television and modern "works" of fiction in print, haven't gone in decades. Places where you experience substantial emotional uplift and involvement ... Art, you know, capital A art. Which is easily possible even with a shooter.

The last game that actually grabbed me in that way was Final Fantasy IV on the Super Nintendo.....

When the two little twins sacrificed themselves so the hero could escape to finish the mission, I wept.

Mass Effect is capable of both. If you don't find that with your LI, maybe you chose the wrong one. If I screw up and Garrus dies in ME3, I will cry -- a lot.

Porn clip? There's no actual sex depicted, in any of the romances. The raciest ones (Miranda and Jacob) only depict the foreplay and build up.

I do kind of wish the romance scenes were closer in flavor to ME1 (Partial nudity), but I do enjoy what we got in ME2.

I don't want it to be exploitative though.

I was unhappy that Garrus seemed so despondent in ME2, they emptied him out too much. I hope he comes back more devil-may-care and energetic in ME3.

Garrus is always one of my companions, on every mission.

Nah, there is no game where a love interest is ever going to appeal to me. It's not why I play shooters. Any love interest is a distraction, and if it lacks an associated achievement I won't even go there.

In response to the OP, I don't think any scene in any of the ME games are "pornographic". Admittedly , I didn't read through all 5 pages of this thread so maybe that has already been established.
Porn to me is something along the lines of Co-Ed Confidential on Skinomax (Cinemax).

Oh dear. Another anti-romance thread.

Honestly, if you don't like them, don't pursue them.
