Dude, compared to ME1, the ME2 sex scenes are tame.
As you wish, my appraisal differs. Do you, personally, require a graphical sex scene in order to understand and enjoy a romantic storyline?
The issue I have here is the word require. Its an interesting wordplay that traps the respondant if they disagree there argument is undermined prima facie. Few people would argue that they need a graphic sex scene to recognise that sexual relations have taken place. A graphic sex scene is neither a necessary or sufficient condition for a romance story. That being said done well and tastfully a la Mass Effect 1 (albeit with a lack of variety) they can greatly amplify the experience. A beautiful romance culminates in a consumation and to describe them a dirty is an injustice imo.
That being said it could be argued that to an extent the censorship of these scenes trivialises the relationship particularly in a role playing game where you are meant to be the character. I find that its a greater disconnect (or distraction to use the OPs term) to have a fade to black as now my character (that I am supposed to be) is privy to things of which I am not. As an analogy its like just as Im about to have sex I became spontaneously blind.
Something the OP said is that he endured these sex scenes in order to get the achievement, I contend that is why he felt the aforementioned distraction without really engaging with the characters the sex scene most probably amounted to a one night stand which has left him unsatisfied.
A final thought; The OP said he had to quite literally turn away from the screen when this happened. How did he feel about Shepherd beating up a woman (al Jisani), executing a surrendering adversary on her knees (Shiala), beating information out of a prisoner (Thanes quest), shooting hostages (LOTSB), shooting a fan in the leg, pushing a kid over and stepping on his throat to get info (Mouse), ordering Jack to kill a disturbed man, or baiting someone into a field of view so Garrus could snipe them. These are just a few of the actions possible not to mention the scores of people you kill. Personally I have no problem with the inclusion of these possibilities I bring them up to illustrate a point; that as a society we find the depiction of consensual sex more controversial than some pretty heinous acts of violence.
Food for thought?
