Is there any way to turn off the automatic scaling and automatic attributes features when designing creatures?

This should probably be moved to the scripting forum, but yes, it is possible. As far as I am aware, all creatures utilize the script, creature_core.nss. In it, there is a spawn event named EVENT_TYPE_SPAWN. Somewhere in there, the function, AS_InitCreature() will be called. This is where all the scaling begins to start.
At any rate, you will need to override creature_core.nss with your own scipt (i.e. mesphito_creature_core.nss), catch EVENT_TYPE_SPAWN, and then do your own thing.
Perhaps there is another easier way...

Thanks for the tip! I'll check it out. Fortunately, scripting is one of the things which haven't become (much) more difficult/complicated in the Dragon Age toolset.
But still, there should be a way to set abilities from within the toolset. As far as I know, it is not possible to define creature abilities from the "new creature" nenu. However, it is possible to set skills, spells and talents.
Scaling might be what some people want, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Certainly not mine.
Some encounters could and should indeed scale, but I don't want to be forced to have every character/monster in my module scale per default. For the Bioware official campaign, I have no complaints.
