Can you like on Mass Effect 2 transfer a character then change his/her class?

I recall the developers saying yes that you could still change their class and their face after importing like in ME2

You can. I vaguely recall hearing that if you do change class, however, you'll be dropped to level 5.

I've been a solider but i want try the infiltrator, so if this is true i've got enough time for a perfect playthrough of mass effect 2 has a infiltrator. Well it would help set up my stats anyway

I was just reading a thread yesterday, where someone was linking to one of the developer's twitters, and they were saying you keep your level even if you change the class. I'm sorry I don't have the link, though. =/
