I've been playing Multiplayer every day since the early release, and find the process of starting a game to be extremely frustrating. Here's how a typical session goes after selecting Quick Match:

Scenario 1:

The lobby is filled up (4 players) but one or two people never "Ready Up", so everyone leaves.

Scenario 2:

The lobby never fills up for some reason, as though the matching system doesn't know how to add people to a game except simultaneously. Either everyone leaves, or we start a match with a partial team and die very quickly.

Scenario 3:

As scenario 2, except due to kicking someone who is taking too long to ready up. Once again, the slot doesn't get filled.

These are not edge cases, these are the common cases. It sometimes takes more than 10 tries to actually start a game, and even then not necessarily with a full team. Something needs to change.

Suggestions:

The ready up system should be replaced with a countdown timer -- you shouldn't be in the lobby if you're modifying your character. 30 seconds is sufficient between matches. Once the timer completes, the match starts.

Also the player matching system seems fundamentally broken. Why aren't players added to a lobby that has empty slots? If creating a private game, I understand you want to reserve slots for your friends, but we're talking public games here.

Lastly, I'd suggest restricting silver and gold matches to higher level characters. Countless times I've been in a silver or gold match and someone brings in their level 3 soldier only to get themselves, and thereby the whole team, killed instantly.

I'm a huge ME fan and was actually happy about the MP announcement, but it needs a lot of work. Hope these suggestions are taken to heart. Cheers.

yes. the thing is now that ppl have become accustomed to the above cases you have mentioned they will leave a match that isnt full or has a low level guy in it almost immediately to find another match. So queuing and hoping that spots will get filled wont work since a player will join and notice the group isnt full and has no chance of filling so will leave immediately.

BW have created I think the WORST matchmaking system Ive used. there are others that will NEVER find a game due to the low population of players, but that isnt the case here I believe.

having said that the bigger issue is the netcoding which makes players blink from one spot to another. its a game breaker.

I would let people into matches that have already started and give a 2 minute time limit on the lobby screen.

I more-or-less agree with you. On the XBox it is "normal" to have problems finding a good game to join because at least one person is sitting there with a thumb up their butt. Kicking the person won't help because that slot "almost never" fills up.

Note: Your suggestions are good for finding a Quick Game and then potentially moving on. Once you find a full & balanced group that plays as a team this is GOLD and you shouldn't be so quick to move on. I'm happy to wait a minute or two while folks add a power or two or buy something from the store. Of course you'll usually find that your good teams are the same people that don't make you wait forever anyway.

I would simply like A WAY TO TYPE IN CHAT MESSAGES.

Communication in a Lobby? NECESSARY!

Scenario 1 and 3 could be fixed by simply giving Leader an extra vote.

Scenario 2 could be fixed by having a lobby for lobbies.

WITH TEXT CHAT, PLEASE!!

I wholeheartedly agree with your suggestions and have felt your pain.

In regards to low levels showing up in silver and gold matches....  While I'm sure there are instances of new players doing this without knowing better, I had at least one instance earlier today where I selecting bronze as my requested level of play and was put into a silver match.  I'm not sure if it does this when no bronze matches are open (because there are never any open slot *sly wink*) or if it is a glitch.

But while I do get dropped fairly frequently from the server and some bugs remain, it seems like I have more problems with players than I do with the software.  If you're in a game make sure you're ready.  And be nice if you see a new player in a game.  Don't just automatically drop.

Would love to chat in lobby. I can't tell you how many times I have ended in a silver match with players below level 5. I would love to tell them we're going to get pwnzords.

Plus...way to pub join with friends. When we create a lobby, no one EVER joins it. So, either we Quick Match alone, or play with  2 or 3 without any randoms able to join. Seems like something is broken.

I'd rather much prefer a lobby system where you can see a list of matches created and then pick one from the list. Rather than hope I get into a decent lobby, I can see something in a list like, "FBGhost/Gold/lvl 15-20 only". Also, text chatting is a definite must as some people may not have headsets (or their headsets are too crappy).

While it's true that a random low level character showing up in a Silver game is "useless" if they are a really good player it doesn't matter as much.

A really good player with a low level character is probably going to be much better than a much higher level but really lame player.

I liked being kicked from a Gold match lobby as I was obviously waiting to get more than 3 players before trying it out. Don't know if the leader was just unaware they were doing Gold or what, but couldn't say anything about it

Chat mikes are cheap, and they are essential for MP games.  You can buy one at Wal Mart for $20.

yeah I agree. Maybe make the Silver and Gold Waves unlockable when you reach a certain level? That way you dont get in over your head.

Sucks when just myself and a friend or two and we cant fill in the empty group spots. Would be nice if the empty spots in create a match or quick match are filled..

Totally agree with OP That lobby system just sucks. When I create a game myself, usually not even one person joins that lobby. Even when using quickmatch, it takes ages until the last spot is finally filled with a player.

It often takes a good 5 - 10 tries until I'm finally in a full team, where everyone is actually ready and wants to play.

Before enforcing a permanent caste system on ME3 co-op players via locked difficulty tiers, I'd rather Bioware do two things:

1) Squash the bug where you can be dumped into any given difficulty setting despite the one you were specifically looking for (searching for bronze games at level 4 and being sent to a gold lobby etc.)

2) Change the default settings for quick match from "any difficulty" to Bronze. High levels joining Bronze randomly is fine. Low levels randomly joining silver/gold, not so fine.

Then see where we're at, and if more strict changes are needed.

yeah, I'm having a problem with this too. My friend and I have to search for matches seperately, and spam invites whenever either of us finds a lobby with an open slot, which is once every 10 minutes. Even when we do find a lobby like that, the time it takes for my friend to accept the invite and load the lobby is really long, and someone usually leaves because they think I'll never ready up. I really wish there was a way to join a game as a party.

I just searched for a Gold match, got thrown into a match in progress on round 5. On top of a grenade. With 2 phantoms running at me.
