Does anyone else here feel sorry for Dragon Age II?

I remember the pre-release hype for Dragon Age II was almost universally negative.  Mass Effect 3 is already being showered with praise and I can't help but feel bad for the people who worked so hard on Dragon Age II.  Already their game isn't held in high esteem, even amongst Bioware fans so imagine how few people will care about it post Mass Effect 3, especially if Mass Effect 3 turns out to be a huge critical success.

No. They made their bed, now they've got to sleep in it.

DA2 was a good game, wasn't a great game but a good game.  I the main problems I would say is it went left when people thought it would go right.  It did have a more unique story structure but it got hurt by re-using areas too much.

Will be playing it later this year. I have this funny thing about liking to form my own opinions about things, rather than basing my perceptions on the raging of internet forumites.

I've met a lot of people who would argue that DA 2 is actually a better game then DA:O. However, the argument is its not Baldurs Age: Origins, so its direct sequel didn't get the outcome.

Good games don't ship without essential and promised features. Good games don't have one cave map, one house map etc etc.

I've never understood the hate. Dragon Age II was, in almost every way, a better game. Better story, better combat, better characters, much more emotionally engaging. It still isn't as good as the Mass Effect games, but mostly that has to do with me being sick to death of the Fantasy setting, and it not having biotic charge. I'll admit there were a couple of WTF moments in the writing, but honestly, what game doesn't have those.

DA2 wasn't a bad game, the real problem is that it wasn't a Dragon Age game.

I would truly care about this topic if this was in the Dragon Age general discussion............. which it isn't.

No, it was a bad game. Maybe they'll learn to spend the required amount of time making their games from now on.

I'm only familiar with DA:O, DA2 was a cheap knock off, it sold on the strength of it's predecessor with virtually no merit of it's own.

DA2 was full of sloppy, lazy, full-idiot design and coding. Dungeons being reused ad nauseum, ridiculous wave combat, THOSE FRIGGEN ELF TEXTURES, dumbed way down Hamburger Helper dialogue, and etc. were all unforgivable.

ME3 already seems to have a lot of similar symptoms affecting it. Terrible animations, lack of separate binds for everything that is on spacebar (PC issue since console controllers are used to this), worse writing, worse sound track, etc.

Yeah, for me it was re-used maps and waves that brought it down. The story was an interesting experiment that mostly worked and the characters were good. Bioware should be at least applauded for trying out different story structures.

It needed more time in development, I liked DA2 but it had lots of issues in both story and gameplay.

I didn't play it either, I'm very familiar with DA:O.  Repitition in the world, reused textures in two hour long dungeon crawls, side-quests that put you back in the same caves and forests.  Many of the falicies you can describe in DA2 can be used to actually describe DA:O.  Had DA2 been classified as an in between sequel instead of a second sequel, I could say DA2 wouldn't be as negative.

Eh, I think it was an interesting experiment. It was ok, not terrible, but not great, and I think serves to highlight issues that the action oriented direction can have with their type of game. I tihnk the next game will be better for it than if they had gone with something more familiar.

Ya I was gonna add that but felt it would give people something to jump on... silly me I forgot.... people don't need anything to jump on :D

One of the things I did like though is that it fixed a lot of bugs in the combat system.  I played DA:O on PC and combat was near unplayable due to bugs and glitches.

Isn't it funny when people generalize Bioware for trying something from other games, but then people complain when a new direction is taken, its bad?
