Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to imprison the player in a city (a city that also used to be a prison, btw) for 95% of the game? What the hell was that idiot thinking, and why the hell didn't anyone else on the team speak up and tell them how ****ing idiotic their ideas were?

So was The Witcher a bad game as well because it revolved around 1 city?

I don't know. I haven't played The Witcher.

It can work, but it would have needed more expansion about being in the Free Marches in general. A single central setting can work if it doesn't feel stifiling, and expansion is constant.

Who remembers Super Mario 64, which revolved around one castle?

The issue isn't that they decided to use one location for the entire game. it's that the city was so poorly constructed and lacking of real detail.

I don't really feel sorry for folks that product [IMHO] a product that I [and I guess a lot of others] don't like.

It's a pretty good game.

Not really.

It would have been a lot better if it weren't rushed out the door and the characters weren't FFXIII-level obnoxious.

Still have my copy.

But considering the sheer number of worlds (and how vastly different they are from one another), the two aren't quite comparable.

I feel sorry for myself for having paid good money for Dragon Age II.

I feel concerned for Bioware in general that they are capable of turning out such a shallow and uninspired product.

But towards DAII itself I feel little besides disappointment.

I'm sure ME3 will be different though.  That's what I keep telling myself anyway.  We'll find out soon enough.

Everyone just wanted more of the same. But they went Lucas on some of the lore, and the battlesystem was weird. And with current tech making a real busy city with streets and huge buildings is impossible.

NO. I hope they learned their lesson.

And they were pretty arrogant with their fans before the release. So, I don't feel sorry.

Good story and better graphics ,but the world was to small and the combat was to unrealistic and the customisation of weapons and armor was sorely lacking . I liked the characters well enough ,good game not great. Definatly should have been more ambitious , hopefully they have learned from it.

No DA2 earned the universal negaivity. DA2 had everything going for it a dedicated loyal and rabid fanbase, a wonderful cast of characters beloved by all. A Story that had unlimited potential and Bioware blew it by making a game that reused the same environment more times than the TV series Xena warrior princess reused set pieces. They had 0 choices that matterred and their was not even the illusion that choice matterred either big or small. They story was a good one. Combat was improved. The LI had as much potential for immortality as DAO. And they blew it because they were lazy and disloyal to the fanbase and the franchise and the story. Funny thing is the writers really were getting the hang of engaging the players emotions especially during the DLC I loved my sister in that game and even if she was my 2nd favorite character I cannot  remember her name. Varric was amazing and still the game was very mediocre and forgettable and lackluster and just not worth replaying that 5th or 6th time. Not being able to dl loads of game improving mods also hurt the lifespan if the game.

No, I do not feel bad for DA2 it got what it deserved. I liked the game all right but all the critics are right about it. It is not a sequal or even an expansion it is The kirkwall chronicles a substandard game that is nothing more than a derivative of the original a story set in the same world as Dragon age but with nothing in common with the original masterwork.

ME3 Howwever has shown that the story is intact, characterization is intact, new environments are coming, choices do matter to the overall picture of how things will turn out and the characters we love are still recognizable and still embody all the aspects of character we have come to love about them since ME1

And when the graphics engines have improved the look has improved and NOT given us victims of botched plastic surgery such as Zevran and Alistair DA2 style and an entire race of creatures we have come to love as part of our lore has not been dramatically and unexplainably altered klingon style Star trek OS vs NG.

ME3 has stayed true to fans and story and that is why it deserves all the praise it is getting.

DA2 crapped on the fans and story and lore of DAO and thus it deserves its place at the bottom of the toilet with all the other S***. Even a good crap is still just a crap after all.

Eh, they'll live. And will hopefully actually have time to make their game the next time around.

DA2 made some objectively unforgiveable design choices within. but i still had tons of fun playing =p, way more fun than ME2.

Nonsense. It wasn't the tech that let it down, it was the developer's lack of imagination.

Exactly? No. In general? Even each painting world was pretty much seven different missions in the same place. Mario 64 was an exercise in reusing the same levels.

DA2 had more space than most people give credit for. If Bioware had been able to alter the maps to ONLY show what was available, and not have the camera show those unused rooms, then a lot of the 'map reuse' complaints wouldn't exist.

As it was, most people rather neglect how wasted much of the DAO space actually was. Besides that hole Deep Roads/Fade nonsense, a lot of the space they put in was still repetitive and simply padding.

Remember that we have to stimulate the economy so even buying a bad game is praiseworthy. What else would you do with it, donate to Romneys campaign?!

DA2 wasn't nearly as bad as some people want you to believe it is. The story was extremely engaging and I loved the characters. I've actually beaten it twice, something I haven't even been able to do once with many games that list themselves as RPGs (including Oblivion, Fallout 3, Witcher 2, any Final Fantasy that came out after FFTactics).

DA2 wasn't a bad game, the real problem is that it wasn't a Dragon Age game.

QFT. If it didn't carry the Dragon Age name it would be a great game. It's an 8/10, unfortunately people were expecting a 10/10. Sorta like what would happen if Blizzard or Valve would release a "good" game instead of an "OMGWFTAWESOME" game.

How was it not a dragon age game when there has been only 1 other dragon age game?

It's not as if dragon age has multiple games in a series all following the same basic structure.

How to you rectify that logical inconsistency?

People wanted the Grey Wardens, they wanted the old Baldur's Gate/Dragon Age tactical gameplay, the "dark" graphics and storyline, the multiple options, the darkspawn, the chance to play as a different race, a silent protagonist, and returning characters. What they got had none of those things, or so little of it that most couldn't even tell the difference. It simply wasn't a Dragon Age game.

There's nothing wrong with change as long as it makes the product better. The changes made the game worse, and that's the problem.

Dragon Age was one of the most annoying, repetitive, boring games I've ever played. I cannot feel sympathy for the bad reviews. If anything, I feel bad that EA forced them to put out a steaming pile of crap with half the development cycle it should have had. I stomached through it, but I had had enough after playing through literally the same dungeon 150 times throughout the game (literally, there were 3 or 4 dungeons that were repeated throughout, without even changing the layout.

Baldurs Gate is dead. I wished for years that it was not so. Dragon Age 2 proved this once again.
