Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to imprison the player in a city (a city that also used to be a prison, btw) for 95% of the game? What the hell was that idiot thinking, and why the hell didn't anyone else on the team speak up and tell them how ****ing idiotic their ideas were?
So was The Witcher a bad game as well because it revolved around 1 city?
Does anyone else here feel sorry for Dragon Age II?

It can work, but it would have needed more expansion about being in the Free Marches in general. A single central setting can work if it doesn't feel stifiling, and expansion is constant.Leafs43 wrote...

Who remembers Super Mario 64, which revolved around one castle?

The issue isn't that they decided to use one location for the entire game. it's that the city was so poorly constructed and lacking of real detail.

It would have been a lot better if it weren't rushed out the door

But considering the sheer number of worlds (and how vastly different they are from one another), the two aren't quite comparable.

I feel concerned for Bioware in general that they are capable of turning out such a shallow and uninspired product.
But towards DAII itself I feel little besides disappointment.
I'm sure ME3 will be different though. That's what I keep telling myself anyway. We'll find out soon enough.

And they were pretty arrogant with their fans before the release. So, I don't feel sorry.

No, I do not feel bad for DA2 it got what it deserved. I liked the game all right but all the critics are right about it. It is not a sequal or even an expansion it is The kirkwall chronicles a substandard game that is nothing more than a derivative of the original a story set in the same world as Dragon age but with nothing in common with the original masterwork.
ME3 Howwever has shown that the story is intact, characterization is intact, new environments are coming, choices do matter to the overall picture of how things will turn out and the characters we love are still recognizable and still embody all the aspects of character we have come to love about them since ME1
And when the graphics engines have improved the look has improved and NOT given us victims of botched plastic surgery such as Zevran and Alistair DA2 style and an entire race of creatures we have come to love as part of our lore has not been dramatically and unexplainably altered klingon style Star trek OS vs NG.
ME3 has stayed true to fans and story and that is why it deserves all the praise it is getting.
DA2 crapped on the fans and story and lore of DAO and thus it deserves its place at the bottom of the toilet with all the other S***. Even a good crap is still just a crap after all.

DA2 made some objectively unforgiveable design choices within. but i still had tons of fun playing =p, way more fun than ME2.panamakira wrote...
Not really. I like Dragon Age 2 too. A matter of taste. People whine too much in these forums. I like to have fun playing games~

Nonsense. It wasn't the tech that let it down, it was the developer's lack of imagination.SneakiestNeg wrote...
Everyone just wanted more of the same. But they went Lucas on some of the lore, and the battlesystem was weird. And with current tech making a real busy city with streets and huge buildings is impossible.

Exactly? No. In general? Even each painting world was pretty much seven different missions in the same place. Mario 64 was an exercise in reusing the same levels.Random Jerkface wrote...

DA2 had more space than most people give credit for. If Bioware had been able to alter the maps to ONLY show what was available, and not have the camera show those unused rooms, then a lot of the 'map reuse' complaints wouldn't exist.
As it was, most people rather neglect how wasted much of the DAO space actually was. Besides that hole Deep Roads/Fade nonsense, a lot of the space they put in was still repetitive and simply padding.

People wanted the Grey Wardens, they wanted the old Baldur's Gate/Dragon Age tactical gameplay, the "dark" graphics and storyline, the multiple options, the darkspawn, the chance to play as a different race, a silent protagonist, and returning characters. What they got had none of those things, or so little of it that most couldn't even tell the difference. It simply wasn't a Dragon Age game.Leafs43 wrote...

QFT. If it didn't carry the Dragon Age name it would be a great game. It's an 8/10, unfortunately people were expecting a 10/10. Sorta like what would happen if Blizzard or Valve would release a "good" game instead of an "OMGWFTAWESOME" game.raz3r_ wrote...
DA2 wasn't a bad game, the real problem is that it wasn't a Dragon Age game.
How was it not a dragon age game when there has been only 1 other dragon age game?
It's not as if dragon age has multiple games in a series all following the same basic structure.
How to you rectify that logical inconsistency?

There's nothing wrong with change as long as it makes the product better. The changes made the game worse, and that's the problem.Oblivious wrote...
