Yeah, I hate this system. I have most of the characters except the Quarian, which is the one I want to play as. I keep on unlocking cards for Drell vangaurd...very annoying. I'm at the point where I would pay an extra 5$ to unlock Quarian engineer in multiplayer in the retail version so I can have some fun, instead of repeatedly getting frustrated by these packs.
Some are lucky and others are not

Level 50+ and never got another player card human or otherwise, clearly no luck in the demo at least. Is it even possible to get other classes?? Haha.

We play in a more or less closed group now, and when someone unlocks a race from a veteran pack, you hear this in voice chat:

Turian Sentinel on my Starter pack. Salarian Infiltrator [ Twice ] on Veteran. I never blow cash on Recruit. Seems like a waste of money.

And I have yet to get a new character. Im stuck with my level 18 sentinel Skylar.

it took me between 5-7 vet packs to get my first character unlock (drell vanguard). if you could guarantee me those odds right now, i'd take it in a heartbeat.

i feel you bro. i have almost all X weapons. I only have a krogan soldier and a salarian infiltrator. it pisses me off because i was playing with someone who kept boasting their Quarian Engineer from the starter pack. Bioware has a good idea here, but the system is so effed that I dont feel like trying to get the veteran packs anymore.

I received Drell Vanguard. I'm around 100 now and I unlocked the Turian Sentinel as well.

took me to N7 rating 82 but i finally have all the extra characters unlocked except the drell vanguard. Still waiting on the revenant and the widow. I was playing last night and unlocked the turian sentinel, the asari adept, and krogan soldier in consecutive veteran packs. Wacky system.
