I think Mass Effect has had a fine cheesy consistency throughout. Though nothing is quite so useless as "we fight or we die."

I dunno...comparing Contact War to Genophage is pretty bad.

The writing varied quite a bit. The thing with the ME3 writing is it seems very pushy. It's going where it wants to no matter how a particular Shepard may feel about it.

Character writing was probably better than the plot writing but that's almost always been the case in Bioware games for as long as I can remember.

Agree to disagree?

How about we agree to disagree AND you also call me Godking from on.

You've got to learn how to haggle.

Okay, in return you work for me until you die. Challenge accepted!

I am reminded by this scene in the Godfather whenever I see the whiny officers in the council.

Fantastic scene.

I loved the dialogue, and that's what counts. The story can be simple as possible, as long as dialogue and characters have depth.

I thought ME2 writing was pretty good.
Then again, what are we comparing it to?

The Godfather.

Well then ME2 writing was caveman scribbles on a wall. :P

In reality though, I think ME2 had great writing, but some sections of ME1 overtook it. Saren <3

And agreed.

I really don't understand the big stink about this one line.  I mean what the hell do you expect him to say?  The reapers had just shown up he didn't have time for some long monologue.

How about skipping the monologue altogether. That's the point about being useless. A longer monologue would have been more useless.

An attempt at an inspiring monologue makes some measure of sense when he's giving it to his crew. They're a bunch of grunts and soldiers. They're supposed to look up to their commanders to hold everytihng together.

But when it's peers or people who outrank him, the correct answer is "evacuate the civilians, then fall back."

Edit: Renegade response might be "use the civilians as decoys."

The side-mission and character related writing was better ME2, but the main story was pretty damn bad. The amount of unjustified railroading and gaping Cerberus and Collector-related plotholes was was not on the small side

Yes, out of 12 squadmates I only enjoyed five of the new squadmates. The main story was complete garbage and Shepard was transformed from a human who sometimes said stupid things to moronic emotionless cyborg who only showed emotion if you bought dlc. Not t5o mention all the cheese, horrible start, a waste of time and working with Cerberus was horribly done.

I had more fun with the ME3 demo then I did with all of ME2. At least Shepard was human again with emotions with some derp now and then, like in ME.

The overall story wasn't interesting but the dialogs were fine.

I don't expect Shepard to say something more memorable than this anyway, Shep's peptalk in ME1 and ME2 were not impressive either.

No, it was never meant to wrap everything up from the first game since it's a trilogy and it introduced several outstanding charcters from different parts of the ME Universe that we never knew about after ME1. It shined a new light on the Geth and reveal some new things about the Reapers and Cerberus. It had a "deal with the devil" feel to it since cerberus was the only game in town when it came to helping the abducted colonists and I enjoyed that.

The peptalk Shepard gives on the Normandy when she became a Spectre was fricken awesome, of course you where also able to pick your dialog and combine, so that's probaly why it was so great.

I love ME but the writing in general, throughout both games so far, hasn't been great.

I thought the writing of ME2 was mostly good... until I visited these forums.

It's quite bad. But I don't really care.

dialog and story are two very different yet related things.

The dialog in ME2 was great. The story, not so much.

ME3 demo had more stupid lines than Mass Effect 2. I'm shocked.
