I'm playing the PC version (downloaded from Origin). The game was running fine until I landed on Eden Prime and then it started crashing all the time, specially on menus. Most of the time it shows a "Rendering thread exemption: General Protection Fault!" message with different information. I'm always running the game as admnistrator and tried compatibility mode with Windows XP (sp3 and sp2).
I'm "playing" this on a Lenovo G470 laptop: i5 2410M, 4 GB RAM, Intel HD 3000, Windows 7 - Home Premium sp1 (Portuguese-BR) using a windows 7 basic theme (no aero). I'm completely aware the Intel integrated graphics are unsupported but I'd like to at least try and get this game to run on my laptop because I'm living far from proper gaming desktop and will take some months before I can come back home.
My driver version is 8.15.10.2509 and Windows itself is up to date. Direct X is 10.0. The game itself is patched to 1.02 and I have Bring Down the Sky installed but not Pinnacle Station. Audio is set to software on the ME Config utility. The game is set like this: 1366x768, Particle Effects (High), Texture Detail (Ultra High), Filtering Mode (Anisotropic) and Dynamic Shadows and Vsync are on. The game runs fine (it looks like 25-30 fps most of the time) but setting the game the most basic graphics options did not help.
Any tips will be appreciated.
Crashing contantly. General Protection Fault error

You need a real video graphics card, not a tinker toy video chip. As simple as that.
Minimum System Requirements for Mass Effect on the PC
(Corrected from dumb, Pie in the Sky lies to the real thing)
Operating System:
Windows XP or Vista
Processor:
2.4+GHZ Intel or 2.0+GHZ AMD
Memory:
1 Gigabyte Ram (XP)
2 Gigabyte Ram (Vista)
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 6 series (6800GT or better: 210, 310, 520, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 7600 GS, 8200, 8300, 8400 GS, 8500, 9100, 9200, & 9300 are below minimum system requirements)
ATI Radeon X1650 XT or better (X1050, X1300, X1300 Pro, *X1550*, HD 2400, HD 3100, HD 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4250, HD 4270, HD 4350, HD 4550, and (probably) HD 5450 are below minimum system requirements) no video device with Intel's name on it is supported in any way, shape, or form.
Hard Drive Space:
12 Gigabytes
Sound Card:
DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and drivers

@Gorath Alpha as I've said before I'm aware Intel integrated solutions are unsupported. It's just that unsupported doesn't always mean "will not work" and I'm not sure this is a video issue. the Intel HD 3000 is a toy compared to true gamer grade video cards but this one was a big improvement over the old GMA and HD series, and I'm getting passable to decent perfomance on other Unreal Engine games with it. If you could point me to anything I might try to get ME to work I'll be thankful.

In this case it is. I think I've heard of a total of three cases where an Intel chipset booted a Mass Effect game and never without graphical artifacts.HaroldoNVU wrote...

Mass Effect does work on intel chipset. visit intel.com and make sure you have the latest drivers. I just did. Worked for me. And the usual, run as adminstrator and set compatiblity.

Be prepared to replace the machine far sooner when it expires from the strain it wasn't designed to handle.
