Out of curiosity - which craphics cards are you using for ME3 demo and with which settings? I know the specs have been posted but I´m looking for user input.

I have Radeon 4670 on dualcore 2,66, CPU 2,7Ghz, XP SP3 and I tweaked around until I could use all 3 cinematic lights + dynamic shadows + AA + Aniosotropic16 + spherical lighting which made the game look playable without stark shadows that somewhat still existed (game design or my poor specs?) but on tolerable level. (Oddly, at first I had to tone down all settings and work my way up - as if the system getting used to added options, but that´s just me not knowing what does and affects what exactly).

Canyourunit gives me past minimum pass but nowhere near recommended - citing graphics card at recommended:

Features:
Recommended attributes of your Video Card
Image IPB req.Video RAM 512 MB  /  you have 992.0 MB
Image IPB req. Pixel Shader version 3.0 / you have  4.1
Image IPBreq. Vertex Shader version 3.0 / you have  4.1

EDIT: that didn´t translate well - tried to clarify above

So I am confused :) Maybe I have some settings that I could tweak to improve performance or should I change the rig overall?

Main concern/hope here is if I can have the same results in the main game with what I have right now. I don´t think anything will be changed drastically, but it would be the change between me getting to play the game at launch or having to wait to upgrade.

And I do know unless devs chime in, and they probably can´t yet, I´m just fishing... But I really would appreciate all relevant responses.

try turning off AA it is a bit of a performance in most games. your gpu is below the reccomended settings, what resolution do you play with?

Well, if you tone down some of the settings, you should be able to play but not at an optimum level. Also, dynamic shadows does tend to push most older cards a bit more, as does AA. At least try turning off antialialising to boost frame rates.

performance improvements... I'd turn off AA and shadows first as the user above stated

I don't know if VSync causes havoc for you but it does on my old dual core, currently there's no way to turn it off except to edit the game but I expect to see the option in the full game so you might want to note that for future testing

Using an old 9800GTX 512MB and it seems to run the game well on full settings at 1920 x 1080. Maybe I just got lucky :\\

Your 4670 meets the minimum specifications but does not meet the recommended specifications (btw, canyourunit.com is terrible at evaluating a graphics card). I expect that your PC will be able to play the main game at the same level as you play the demo right now, possibly even better once they put in some finishing optimizations.

Personally, I'm using a Radeon HD 5770 (same thing as a 6770). It's a fair bit better than the recommended Radeon HD 4850, and it allows me to play with all the settings maxed out at 1080p. I'm also using an Intel Core i5-2500k quad core processor, no problems there.

I actually have a bit lower specs than you with pretty stable performance enabling AA and shadows (although I see little improvement with shadows). One unique aspect I discovered was turning on AA in catalyst control center actually improves stability coupled with in-game AA. Also disable origin through the preference menu.

Try

turning off :

AA
Aniosotropic
motion blur

And leaving on:

dynamic shadows
cinematic lights
spherical lighting

This should make the game playable without ridiculous shadows in cutscenes (i think)

Also someone on the forum said the game forces some sort of double v-sync anyway even when turned off...
To stop this choose to play in a window instead of full screen , and borderless.
Set your desktop resolution to the game resolution and it will be fullscreen anyway

Well, I have a 9600GT and I can max it out with no problem whatsoever. ME2 also runs with no problem. I only had problems with ME1, but after switching from XP to Win 7, it also started running great.

Thank you for answering - apologies for not answering sooner (I´m currently moving and time tends to be scarce :)

I play at 1440:900. I´ll do a quick run on your suggestions and post the results.

I don't know about this game. ME1 can barely run, and ME2 is a 20 fps mess on my laptop (2.4 GHz i5, 4GB DDR3, Radeon HD 5470m) but the demo runs at a nice 30fps, even in multiplayer. I did turn off FXAA and dynamic shadows, but I'm confused. OP, your PC should be able to handle the demo just fine. I'd recommend updating drivers for your video card and googling whatever problems you have.

Tried your suggestion, the picture got a tad bit lighter but the overall quality was the same, if a bit less smooth. FPS generally between 40 at it´slowest and 60 at highest, average 45-55.

The scene at the tunnel with the kid has been my best indicator - and with all but motion blur on I have the face lit up well during the whole sequence, though the textures of walls are crappy.

Also, tweaking the N and 7 both visible - should it be advisable to have them equally standing out or try to tone down one?

So I can more-or less play the game now but upgrade has to happen.

The framerates are average around 50, no stuttering or lagging. I suck at posting pictures but I might try and leave a couple up here for reference.

Interesting - is there a site the does that better?

What improvements does turning origin off have, performance boost maybe?

So generally this. If I can have that in the main game, I´ll be ok, but any next game is going to blow me out of the water..heh.

hey no worries it looks like you solved your issues anyways. have your considered though? a 5000 series card is pretty cheap these days and quad core cpu's are a must. i'd go for amd because they're cheaper and their x4 and x6 series cpu's are pretty good. ;)

Thanks :) Yeah, I´ve actually been meaning to upgrade, but the moving business has left my wallet sad. Good that I can apparently play me3 without bleeding eyes but as you said, a quad is a must nowdays (a quad...eheh) anyway so it´ll be a major overhaul. I just need to man up and start building my own rigs instead of bying prebuilt.
