This.

For me Meer is the official voice of Commander Shepard.

Jennifer Hale is a hell of a VA but she's done so many memorable games that I can't associate her with Shepard, I've always remember some character from a past work.

That's kinda me as well - Mark Meer is Commander Shepard. Jennifer Hale is, just off the top of my head, Jessie Bannon, Bastila Shan, Avatar Kyoshi... Commander Shepard is a role that's fairly far down on the list for me.

I play both Sheps, but I guess I like Meer´s voice more. Mostly because I almost came to hate the Jennifer Hale persona that gets so much atttention. It´s an allergic reaction of sorts (but I still play FemShep ^^).

I like Meer's voice, but I just like Hale's better. That said, they do both have their hits and misses. Also, I don't like how Meer says "against." Might just be my southern yokelness (not sure how it's pronounced in the rest of the world), but as soon as I hear that word, I don't hear anything else for the next few seconds.

"You can step aside or be crushed under my feet, but you will NOT stand in my way."

This line makes me cry with happiness every time I hear it.

Oh I love how Meer delivers that line, so epic

I used to be pretty biased towards FemShep, but after playing as a male it's not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. As others mentioned, I think Hale delivers some lines better and Meer as well. I think both do Paragon and Renegade well in their own ways.

I can't stand it. I avoid doing playthrough's as man!Shep because of it.

To be fair, it's not Meer's fault as a VA. Certain voices really annoy me and his happens to be one of them. At least in man!Shep mode. He was fantastic in the E3 demo as Mordin!

Edit: And he has steadily improved since ME1

It's Sheploo.

Sheploo.

Not man!shep

Sheploo.

I do as well, there are plenty of lines that when Meer gets them right Hale doesn't and just as many that hale gets right and Meer kind of flops.

However they are both very talented at what they do and I love Meer as Shepard and don't understand why people hate him so much (or even Sheploo for that matter)

No, male Shepard is either ManShep or MaleShep, Sheploo is the default face for Shepard.

And I too prefer Mark Meer's work, his voice is the only one I hear in my head when I think about Shepard.

Can you explain? I don't hear anything wrong with the way he says "against", but we don't have a great variety of accents in Canada, really - so I could be biased.

For someone so conviced its funny your wrong.

Sheploo refers to the default male Shepard modeled after Mark Vanderloo.

Meer's VAing for Shepard is average. But Hale's is overacted and breathes more of her words than she speaks them; it is just coma inducing. I chose the lesser evil.

That's because she sounds like the female version of batman.

Meer's voice acting fit more the diciplined soldier type, while Hale come out more emotional.

Man I LOVE Meer, to me he *is* Commander Shepard.

*FLAME ON!*

I like Jennifer Hale too, but girls can't really be leaders because they always let their emotions get in the way, so it's not really believable. You know, if stuff goes down, problems/conflicts, guys we get over it and have a beer at the end of the day and move on, but girls, they bottle it up, and never really deal with it until it's too late.

And that is where things can go wrong; people get hurt when you let feelings, pride, predijuce get in the way of rational thinking.

Right? :?

But I LOVED Jennifer Hale in KOTOR! Man, Bastila Shan was an awesome sidekick. =]

I honestly think Jennifer Hale sounds like she tries too hard with her low voice. Meer just sounds like he's reading right out the script although the interactive comic was wondering done by him.

Hale is amazing and puts a lot of emotion in her voice. She's great at what she does. She kind of like Nolan North in the sense that you automatically recognize her not just because of the voice, but because of the emotion behind the voice. (Except Penguin.....I never would have guessed that was North on my own)

However, my first playthrough was with a male Shep and that's the voice that is Shepard for me. On top of that, Meer's voice is much more stoic, much more commanding and that of a soldier's it seems to me. Yeah, there is less emotion, I think, but I think that works for it. Shepard is passionate, yes, but he's a soldier first. It might come off a little more flat, but that's because he's got a lot on his mind and he's concentrating on the task at hand.

That might just be me, though. Again, Hale = much more emotion and Meer = stoic Marine. Both have their good and bad.

As others have said.. last I checked Sheploo was the face itself.  The default face. The charcter is still man!Shep.

I may actually give a man!Shep playthrough a chance this time because, just by playing the demo, there does seem to be an improvement. (Also. I want to romance Tali.) Maybe once I wrap up my other files..
