I love Mark Meer's Commander Shepard voice

However, Meer wins overall because he also voices the Volus and Vorcha. THE VORCHA. Think about it. My vocal cords feel strained just thinking about it.

There's a reason as to why Mark is Shepard, and it's the same reason why Jen is the female Shepard, he's got the talent to be that character, his voice is clear and he doesn't has to fake it to imply emotions as Jen sometimes does IMO.
Because he doesn't even bother to emote as Shepard. Which I blame completely on the direction he's given, becuase Mark Meer is talented and CAN act well, for whatever reason, the directors had him act with as little emotion as possible in ME1 and most of ME2
though I like Meer as a paragon shepard, another reason I like Mark Meer is because he rarely has shepard show emotion and that is what I prefer in any hero/heroine just throw the emotions out the door.

Meer was not very good in the first game, he improved in the 2nd and is amazing in the 3rd demo.
I still lol everytime he says "aboot" or "oot" or something. Makes me thing of Terrance and Phillip.
Hale is generally good, I just wished for her to soften her voice a little. Femshep sounds like she is trying to imitate a man with every line.

I like him for paragon, but I think Hale is a lot better for renegade.
I agree. I only have two sheps- my cannon paragon male and non-canon renagade female. The voices work well.

After getting used to Meer, Hale's voice acting lacks certain "warmth". I guess some people like the ice-cold voice, but I don't.

He's awesome, his paragon voice delivers just the right tone feeling to the character. I have no problem connecting the voice to my characters appearance, it fits like a glove.

See I feel the exact opposite.
Meer's voice work seems cold and flat to me, like Shepard doesn't care at all about what's going on. very bored and monotone.
Conversely, Hale's voice acting has spirit and brings personality to the role. She seems anything but cold to me.

He sounds calm, cool, collected and confident. He does a very good Paragon and a very sarcastic Renegade, I feel.
I can't take Hale seriously. She often injects to much emotion in every line and over does it. Say what you want, but I'd rather have a Shepard that sounds like he has it together - more realistic - then somebody who can't control how they feel.

I've never heard any "oot"s in his speech, he isn't even from the area where that accent exists.

Hale's delivery (which I didn't catch until I saw it in a Youtube vid yesterday) was very understated. A slight bit of menace but not much of it, and the inflection was nonexistent. Took an interesting line and turned it into a really flat joke. Meer absolutely nails it, just the right level of exasperation and most importantly the right inflection at the right points to really sell the pun. It's those little things.

If there's one thing that stands out in this thread, it's that everyone is really lucky they went the route of creating two distinct 'takes' on Commander Shepard (from the voice standpoint). They followed the 6 Ps:
Proper Planning Prevents ******-Poor Playthroughs

Meer is the reason I've literally never done a full Broshep playthrough. And I wish that was exaggeration. I've tried it in ME1 a few times and every attempt results in me quitting at some point before the evidence hearing on the Citadel. I heard his voice was better in ME2, so I tried that too and then I ended up quitting before even leaving the Cerberus tutorial facility.
If it hadn't been for Hale I likely wouldn't be playing Mass Effect at all. I don't like saying this because Meer seems to be a cool guy, but at the same time his voice is just a complete no. There were a million options better suited if you ask me.
listen to yourself - you nearly didnt play a game because you didn't like the main characters voice... how utterly f-ing stupid is that. you are a loser sir.
