Not much information at the moment, though there's supposed to be a video showing off the game in a few weeks. It's made by Stoic, a new Independent studio consisting of ex-BioWare developers who worked on Star Wars: The Old Republic. Some of what they've promised or hope for:
  • PC, Mac and web are the targetted platforms, then go over to iPad and more
  • BioWare style dialog
  • Painterly landscapes
  • Vikings
  • Turn-based strategic combat
  • Choices will dramatically affect the outcome of the story
  • Will be released in two parts; the combat will be released as the first part for free, the second part will be the full story based exploration game and it will cost money

You've never heard of it because they only recently announced it?

Or them. The studio, any of the dev names. Did they work on any Bioware games other than TOR?

Looks like my comp can run it from that screen shot. I'm looking forward to it.

Vikings, aroo? This could be good, or it could be complete offal. I'm afraid I've come to expect the latter from Norse themed stuff.

If I'd needed to read past "vikings", "turn-based strategic combat" would have done it anyway - sounds like an interesting product imo.

Fingers crossed for them.

One to keep an eye on. Will probably have Mass Effect DLC piped into somewhere :)

Depends if it's released on disc. I might try it out. It looks like what one would expect from an old Bioware RPG. Not that I have a problem with the Mass Effect series and the dialogue wheel but I prefer a wall of text myself.

Well
you wouldn't have heard of the studio either, because it's a small
independent team that just got started. As for their names, BioWare has
hundreds of employees. Just because they didn't post on the BioWare
forums or aren't the center of attention in the media, that doesn't mean they didn't
make significant contributions. They were all leads on TOR for the past 5
years, although I don't know if they worked on any other BioWare games directly.

This is a small independent studio run in...a goat shed, so I think it's safe to assume it will be all digital like most indie games. You could always save it to a flash drive or something.

Playing like a real Viking instead of a bloated red bearded dwarf playing Viking? Sign me up.

Looks interesting, wonder what norse elements we'll be seeing in game. The Futhark, kenning rhymes, holmgangs etcetera. I do like the stylised art, somewhat reminiscent of the Bayeux tapestry.

An interview with Alex Thomas, one of the developers. Plus a screenshot of the combat:

Oh, and they're going to do a KickStarter to help out with the development costs too.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a KickStarter?

I've only recently heard of it.  It's essentially a service that allows people to donate/contribute to a project to help fund the development of that project.  I see it as a way for indie game developers to fund games without relying on mega-publishers and their demands (like EA).  Here is a link to their site.  Kickstarter

I actually like the sound of that idea. If they annouce some perks for x amount of donation, I might toss some cash their way.

It sounds like a good way to keeping your original idea as pure as possible, since there are less ambitious parties involved.

Indeed. Chris Avellone and Brian Fargo are also thinking of doing KickStarter's for their RPGs too. It's a great thing for fans of niche genres/games, assuming that any of these guys are half as successful as Tim Schafer was in generating funds. I believe Tim Schafer's adventure game got like 2 million USD, or close to it.

There is a lost viking at my local bar. Seriously, he is a viking. I'll let him look at it and see what he says. Posers or Players. Thor's verdict is waiting.

Meh at first i tought "WTF a Hulk RPG??
Then read the OP. you got me at Vikings and turn based tactical combat.
We lack turn based combat games nowadays. This game will be a nice change.
