I picked up the game, only a few hours into it - Enjoying the story a lot, though the combat is tough as expected - so if that isn't your thing, then you probably won't enjoy it that much, but I like the turn based aspect - plus the whole little system when you're on the road is pretty interesting. Good game so far.

So Candy Crush Saga is taking them to court for having Saga on their title. This for real?

I've spent some time with the game and sometimes I'm good in combat and then...not so good. I wish there was a restart battle option, but I really like the game overall. Any helpful tips would be appreciated in regards to combat and general advice for leveling and supply management.

I enjoyed this game a lot though it is not without its faults. The CHYOA aspect of it is wonderful, with interesting situations. It's checkpoint based so it's not a game for people who have to reload to get the most favourable outcomes. Just keep rolling with the consequences to your actions.

When I played it first time I botched a lot of stuff which left me worried as hell and concerned about my Caravan. Great times feeling the desperation (though unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of consequences game mechanically speaking).

Combat is so-so, but the thing that hurts it the most IMO (moreso than the kinda weird tactics you employ to make it easier to win battles) is that the enemy variety is bad and the "bad guys" are uninteresting and pretty faceless.

Visuals and (especially) audio and music are *fantastic*. They really add a lot to the game actually.

I definitely enjoyed this game a lot despite a few annoyances. But it seems to be a pretty polarizing game.

The Candy Crush story is all over the interweb. You can't buy PR this good for a quality game that lots of people probably don't even know about. King.com already had called attention to itself trademarking 'candy' and this only makes them look worse. This could turn out really well for Stoic in the long run. #comeatmebro

Who dared to use my title 'Saga'? I demand 1,000,000 $ for penalty!

So does this game look like King's Bounty and Heroes in gameplay? or is it different?

Candy Crush Makers Say They're Going After Copycats, Not Banner Saga

Does this mean they're going to take to court every game company that uses the word "saga"? I'm really hoping Bethesda, or EA, or some other big company decides to release a game with the word "saga" in it. I'd pay to see King.com go up against EA.

^___ Well, it'd be hilarious if Bethesda/Zenimax did it since they tried the same thing a while back except with the world "Scrolls".

It's a goddamn travesty that energy, time and money gets wasted on these stupid, stupid things.

People are making a bigger deal about this than it actually is. Trademark oppositions are a standard process for something like this. They have to file on everything if they want to protect their trademark against actual problems. This happens for every trademark filing. It's not a court case either, it's a trademark dispute. Nobody is suing.

Haven't been able to play it yet because the DRM-Free version isn't out, but AFAIK it's a lot more like Fire Emblem than King's Bounty.

The Banner Saga sequel is being blocked by Candy Crush's trademark claim. This is BS.

www.vg247.com/2014/01/22/the-banner-saga-sequel-blocked-by-kings-trademark-claim/
In a statement, Stoic said King’s trademark claim is interfering with its plans to make another game in the series.

“We won’t make a viking saga without the word Saga, and we don’t appreciate anyone telling us we can’t,” the developer said.

King.com claims they’re not attempting to prevent us from using The Banner Saga, and yet their legal opposition to our trademark filing remains. We’re humbled by the outpouring of support and honoured to haveothers stand with us for the right to their own Saga. We just want to make great games.

Stoic’s Alex Thomas told Polygon that the developer filed a trademark for The Banner Saga before King put in its own claims.

“They’ve blocked our trademark and extended the deadline for the opposition twice so that we are unable to have the rights to the name,” he said.

“Essentially, we are not allowed to own the name ‘The Banner Saga’ for our game about a viking epic, because King.com says they have claimed rights to the noun ‘saga,’ which means ‘a viking epic,’ forever more in the realm of games.”

I have found it better to knock some str of enemies instead of killing them outright and making sure to focus on the big threats first before they can cause havoc early. Also placing those character with good armor breaking earlier in your line up.

Since how turns alternate if you knock out a few low health enemies first you give those big hitters more actions thru out the combat and they can easily wipe out your strongest players.

Rook and his special ability can do wonders, eagle eye archers do increasing str damage depending on how much armor is lost if they do not move are good too to knock high health enemies down. Others characters have skills that can do direct damage to str is a good bet.

Leveling is going to depend on your composition and in all honestly can bite you in the ass. Spending the renown to get someone to lvl 5 then loosing them in a event hurts. Also there are some nice items that pop up thru out the game can help.

Thanks! Rook's ability is great and I'll put this info to good work tonight.

Also when you get to the final battle (should be clear you are there) make sure you have the unique skill under the specific character you picked. If not reload and go again. I hit that bug and wasted about half a hour in a endless battle.

The not taking out weak enemies quickly really hurt me until I adjusted. In similar games its a good idea due to turns being determined by some stat like speed.

Don't feel bad sometimes you just cant really win or you take a lot of hurt doing it and that's how the game is ment to be. At least on normal.

Stoic has put up their first update for the game.

Here are the release notes:

• Added options for subtitles. Click the button with the Close Captioning 'CC' logo on the Options page.
• Added missing Kickstarter backer names to credits
• Backer Crests that missed the initial deadline have been incorporated into the game.
• Challenge Achievement can now be gained, despite Iver losing a battle to Bellower
• Fix issue where ranked up units are unable to use their rank 2 & 3 abilites after loading from a save game
• Fix issue where bad save game files prevented the start menu from displaying.
• Numpad keys are now supported for Conversation option (1,2,3,...) and continue (SPACE, ENTER) hotkeys.
• Numpad keys are now supported for combat hotkeys (1,2,3,4)
• Fixed achievement names of Eagle Eye and Siege Archer
• Dredge Slag Slinger Backoff can now trigger at most once per turn. This addresses problems when Rook's Mark Prey ability is used on a Dredge Slag Slinger when multiple allies can hit it.
• Slingers that get hit while running away will now resume running away after their damage reaction animation completes
• Silver Arrow in Bellower fight now longer requires Willpower to use
• Travel HUD no longer permanently disappears after Einartoft due to certain choices
• More supplies and renown increased throughout Chapter 6
• Nid no longer gains the incorrect number of points to spend on rank up
• Ekkill no longer appears incorrectly in certain events if he is left behind
• Iver is no longer required in the party after Einartoft when making certain choices.
• Fixed an error where Fasolt would stay with the party after Einartoft in certain branches.

Mybudgee, that made me LOL. I am amazed nobody picked on that in the nearly 2 years this thread has existed. I wonder how Stoic delivered on that promise.
