Unless you find this Prothean hiding out in Africa somewhere, the accent completely ruins it for me.  It's such a distinguishing and EARTHLY accent, that it's an immersion breaker.

Was really hoping he'd sound like vigil.  I'm pretty disappointed, but I'll get over it.

Also, how does this Prothean's appearance relate to the statues on Ilos? He looks completely different. I was hoping the Protheans might have a slightly more exotic physiology than your typical humanoid. The accent only makes it worse.

I would like to point something out to you all. It is said the the cradle of humankind is said to be in Africa. I would also like to point out the lore says that the Protheans had a hand in the evolution of mankind, as in such would make since that the Prothean would sound African.

*facepalm* No, it doesn't make sense on anything more than a cursory, shallow level. Languages evolve, change, die out, adapt. Accents as well. It would make no sense for Prothy to have this particular modern accent for the reason you state.

What's wrong with Prothean having African accent?
Asari, Turians and Salarians speak with American accent. By the reasoning the three council races, being the aliens should also have some strange accents, and they don't. Quarians have a sort of eastern-european accent. Yet we all accept them as given. So why not Prothean?
I think he sounds great btw

I think its pretty interesting choice. But ultimately, a made up or unrecognisable dialect/accent would have been the best, signifying the very alien status of the individual.

Supposedly those statues on Illos were the race BEFORE the protheans.

 The second video is better

I thought it sounded horrible and I thought it was a joke with the first video,
when I watched the second video, I actually liked his voice

Human beings can have several different accents but Protheans all have to sound like Vigil? Wow. Nice imagination.....

This.

But really, I found this voice with that filter applied to amazing. Imo, it fits his look. =]

No this is not. Because I do not dispute the possiblity of different accents. I just say that he sounds like Conan the Barbarian not a Prothean as implied in ME. Of course he could be just a grunt, not all Protheans were regal I think. But for the sake of effect he should have sounded like an "ascendant being". Another grunt is not original. We have Wrex, we have Grunt and now we have Javik (sp?)... Like Joker said "Do you buy them all from the same store or something?".

I don't mind the voice. He seems to be a warrior type guy so I think it fits. Why aren't people upset that most aliens have American accents?

The prothean, like Thane, would be using a translater. So why would there be any accent?
I think the accent is OK but conviction lacking.

Then why did Thane have a north American accent? :?

There's no such thing as a person with no accent. Bioware had to go with something, and they, for their own reasons, went for something non-European and non-north American. I don't see the issue, personally. As long as he sounds appropriately badass in my game, I'm gonna be happy.

Because Thane is a civilized metropolitan guy living in cosmopolit planets and the Prothean guy is the last member of a highly advanced nearly ascended exotic race?

But yeah. This is bad. I will have to suppress laughter every time this guy opens his mouth if its legit.

No. I already said he sounded like Conan the Barbarian.

Most of those lines sounded like they came from combat/during objectives. How regal can you sound while being shot at? I find the voice itself to be quite regal, if not the tone, but that may be different during normal conversation. I really like how clearly similar to Vigil the voice filter is though, it didn't end up sounding too Turian.

Solution: don´t buy the dlc. According to the few information in the leaks it doesn´t make much sense anyhow how this prothean managed to survive, but none of the ME1 protheans from Ilos did.

I would have prefered if he was a VI of some prothean (actually i would be cool if he was a repaired Vigil from ME1), not a real prothean. I´m afraid Bioware will come with a really poor excuse as to why this guy is alive, he seems like an afterthought.

That's what I am afraid of. But I don't think I can resist. I am curious. I will buy it.

I would like to point out to someone who said it should be a less recognizable accent, and they in this very thread, many people have been arguing back and forth about what his accent is, it's kind of a mashing together of a few different accents, it just happens that all those accents are associated with people from black cultures, in Africa and Caribbean.

That's interesting. I understand that some might not like the sound of the voice but to argue that it's "wrong" just seems silly to me.

For the sake of sense of wonder and exotic characters I think he should have sounded like Vigil. But most people would like to have a grunt I guess. I mean people adore James Vega and Grunt. Bioware as a commercial establishment would of course favor the dominant trend... Realism does not sell well. Even to me sometimes I admit.

I have a hard time seeing him as a grunt, he seems more in line with Garrus, but I see what you mean. Heh, I went to finish a Renegade, anti-alien Shepard, who'd get all the aliens killed in the suicide mission. Grunt called him during the hold the line bit saying "Shepard, you're missing it, it's glorious!", just him and Tali holding the line. Tali died, but Grunt made it, and just because of that line of his I was fine with it XD. But here's hoping the Prothean is less grunt and more, eh, complex.
