id say a protoss like voice would have been 10x better, it should have been more alien and more powerful sounding, and the accent makes it seem to modern and human. and please dont compare this to the quarians, there are plenty of those with different accents, but we only get one prothean so he should have sounded the least human as possible.

i mean this sounds so cool and would have been perfect for a prothean imo:

They certainly could have gotten Fred Tatasciore
to do his Zeratul voice from Starcraft 2. That might have worked.

yeah that voice is also cool, but not etheral or alien enough imo, starcraft 1 generally had much better unit voices than starcraft 2 imo, i think thats the general opinion as well.

I didn't expect it to be too alien. I mean there wasn't anything really "special" about the Protheans. I like this voice. I think it sounds wise, strong and ominous. To be honest, Vigil's voice bothered me in ME1. I thought that sounded just kind of meh... but he gets a pass since he was a VI. Still, I think this suits an old wise race much better.

It is real. The audio comes right from the demo, which contains all the audio dialogue from every squadmate available during the point of the game were that mission on Sur'Kesh takes place.

Technically speaking, no alien should have an accent. It's all being translated simultaneously into your ear in a way you can understand; that wouldn't be accented.

Nevermind the fact that aliens' lips match the English words, or that the Prothean language should be long dead and gone yet apparently everyone understands Prothy. I really think hisaccent isn't worth getting worked up over. At all.

Going by the leaked audio, only Shepard can clearly understand Prothy, what with Shepard's brain being scanned by the prothean beacon. It makes sense, given Shepard has the cipher lodged in his/her brain.

In the video, there are clips of Prothy speaking specifically to a krogan, and dialogue between Liara (and someone else, forget who) and Prothy.

Why are there so many posts about how bad/insulting/stupid/whatever other demeaning characterstic you can attach to it his voice sounds based on the accent? What, because it sounds african in some way its automatically bad? Would you be happier if he sounded like he was form new york or england?
Just seems racist to me that the problem everyone has is the african like accent, which is one that hadn't been used in the game thus far.

ok now I'm wondering why the hell were these recording in the demo the first place? Was it intentional that BW put these in and knowing that someone will eventually make it public to gain publicity for marketing purposes?

I'll reiterate what I said earlier, when someone accused me of being racist.

This has NOTHING to do with the origin of the accent.
It has EVERYTHING to do with it not matching the look of the Prothean at all.

Since this is subjective, it boils down to being a case of expectations that weren't met. That's cool, it happens.

If you really want to push the "It doesn't match the Prothean" as if it's some kind of objective fact, then we're talking stereotyping, which is bad, and if you're REALLY pushing it, then we're inevitably going to launch back into racism territory.

Can you settle with just admitting your expectations were let down and leave it at that?

Hey Fyk0, you never answered my questions a few days ago.

Edit:  I just thought of something funny, what if there's a dialogue option with the Prothean where you ask why he doesn't look like the statues on iilos?

Edit 2: And evenmore funny, though some people would hate it, if his reaction is similair to Legions when you ask it why it specifically used a piece of your armor insteadof soimething else to patch itself.  Legion says, "No data... available?"

A few things:

1. Goto Ilos, the statues are husks. Dont believe me? was on that lvl. They have tubes coming out of several spots on their face and body

2. BW owns the IP.... If thats how their protheans sound (which is synthesised through a language interpreter system meaning the accent isnt the prothean accent) thats how Protheans sound.

3. You dont like day1 dlc. Dl it later. A game has to be placed on disks. DLC has to be sent in to be accepted. Final line: DLC Takes less time to produce, so why not be grateful that they worked on ME3 stuff instead of going on vacations?

People get soo angry when they hear someone who might sound "dark skin toned" as one of their favorite characters.

Its a sad trend thats been around for a long time. Remember the rumors of a black Master Cheif? You would have though Bungie canceled the game by fan reaction.

Having grown up in one of the most multi-cultural cities in the world, surrounded by immigrants from all over the world, I barely even notice accents. To me it just sounds like a cool voice. I think for some people, perhaps not being used to heavy accents plays a part. Some people also just seem to want to think too much about it. They brought in a VA, he used a certain accent, and they said "That sounds cool", and so they stuck with it. Simple.

I wondered about that myself, then someone told me that Prothy has a line on that as well. Apparently, they represent another race called Iusannon (?) or something, quite probably the previous species that had dominated the galaxy and perished in the last extinction cycle.

Uhm.. no, not really :) We've all been on that level ;)

For one, it doesn't make sense. The Protheans were caught with their pants down by the Reaper, so the statues couldn't have been made prior to the invasion. And after the invasion the facility on Ilos was locked down until the Reapers left.

For another, why would the Protheans even WANT to make statues of Husks?

For a third, see what I wrote above your quote ;) Those statues were supposed to represent the Protheans - indeed that's how MassWiki still has them in the Prothen article - but it was retconned (delicately so) by Bioware. Not to leave us in the dark, they make Prothy explain. So all good.

I've grown up in a part of America where it's almost all white people, and the black people all sound white, and half the Hispanics and Asians sound white, I find the Protheans voice to be an awesome accent, I want a friend with that kind of accent, hell in Oregon I'd kill to have friends who didn't have Oregonian, plain or Hispanic accents.

When I visit a place like that, I always feel uncomfortable and out of place, and I am as Caucasian as they come. It's all about where you grow up.
