The voice in no way suits the Protheans look. That's not being racist, it's being honest. If that offends you in some
way stop taking yourself so seriously.

I like it. I mean this is in no way different than before ME2 when we didn't even know what Protheans looked like, with some of the crew of the Normandy assuming they were regal and not bug-like.

I see this as another thing that the galaxy just was not aware of regarding the Protheans.

It could be possible that the Protheans had different accents. Perhaps accents varied due to location. Not every person from a country sounds the same you know.

The Prothean squadmate concept was pretty retarded to begin with so it is no surprise that stupid idea has a stupid look and a stupid sound to match it.

That's not Kenyan either. It doesn't even sound remotely East African.

At any rate, regardless of how you feel about the concept of a prothean squad mate, there's nothing wrong with his voice. A voice like Vigil's (who was a VI, mind you) wouldn't fit his character.

Also lol at "this is an insult."

His voice being "bad" is subjective, yes. It is a little jarring I find and certainly not what you imagine when you think of a Prothean. Then again he doesn't look like a Prothean anyway so who cares?

Bioware continues to amaze.

This is incontrovertible evidence of interventionary evolutionism! Surely we can no longer deny the truth of Prothean influence in Kenyan culture! We've been looking in the wrong direction for the Master Race all along!

*shot*

...Ahem... anyway, I'm not sure how I feel about the voice because I know nothing about the character or context attached to it. Since it's impossible to actually change the voice at this stage, I'm just going to settle for waiting patiently until the final product comes out so I can judge the overall effect against the background of the actual GAME.

Where are people getting this "Kenyan" business? I've been seeing it a lot.

...Or is it that Africa = Kenya/Zimbabwe syndrome?

Nah, I don't think it sounds too much like Carson.

Damn.

I was hoping he'd be some loud stereotypical Italian guy - "Heya, Shep-parda!  Them Reapas isa somea spicy meataballsa!", or sound like some burly Russian dude:  "Reapers.  I must break you."

Well, we did have the Scottish engineer, so that was covered.  All we need is the perky Japanese comms officer (Akiko), an angsty kid from Brooklyn, (Vinnie) a Krogan with dreads, and Samuel L. Jackson as the voice of Jesus.

*Shrug*  We get a cylon, a douchebag with a faux maux, and a pointless nerdpander in the Chobot reporter.  Why not an Africanized Prothean?

Still... Sam Jackson as Jesus - "Somebody get these mufuk'n Reapers off my mufuk'n planet!"  Jean-yous.  Worth the 15-20 hours of SP gameplay.

This just gets better and better.  /sarcasm

Speak for yourself. I never made any assuptions on what a Prothean could sound like, and since we on this planet have so many accents and dialects I wouldn't be surprised if an individual from one section of a galaxy spanning government sounded different from a person in another section.

Please don't tell me the ****ing Prothean sounds like this. Could we not just give it a Vigil voice?

edit: also this..

WHAT?!?!? How dare he not sound like a european....Bioware, you've got some damn nerve! If his voice is that annoying to you, you could always get custered.

There are no grounds for the Prothean to have a Caucasian, African, or even Asian accent. We do not know enough about Protheans to make preemptive assumptions. Bioware could have chosen any accent or ethnicity, but they chose Nigerian. Why? Likely because the accent is distinct and noticeably diverse, thus making the character appear alien. Furthermore, the accent of one individual does not represent the entirety of the species.

Personal opinion: I like it.

The prothean, like Thane, would be using a translater. So why would there be any accent?
I think the accent is OK but conviction lacking.

Honestly, if you're going to post something this idiotic, one wonders why you bother posting at all.

But we did! Remember the tentacle mouth Prothean statues on Ilos and in Kasumi DLC? They retconned them.

Sory guys I am not an American. I am Turk. We do not have black people issues here in Turkey. Our racist issues are related to another population sadly. But...

I don't think that voice is suited for Protheans. Now they sound like Grunt, sory like the Next Grunt (aka average Joe). Too mundane, not alien, not regal or not like whatever high culture they were implied to be in ME1. Bioware screws its codex entries again.

Well that's what happens when Drew Karpyshin leaves the franchise. Honestly I hate his writing style (novels). Too sterile and commercial but the guy knew how to tell a good story and a consistent story at that. Way to go Bioware. Make Mass Effect franchise another Transformers movie. I am sure you, EA and us fans will benefit from it. Well screw us... Hope you benefit as you always intented.

Now that rant is over let's just say that although I believe I am totally right in ranting I will go and play the demo again. I already knew ME3 would consume what created in the first 2 games without adding any true artistic/creative value on them, and it would only exploit them. This does not mean that the final chapter won't be fun though. But Bioware always remember, because of the FIRST 2 CHAPTERS.

Oh if you will prove me wrong in the game by offering us with real smart and intelligent dialog options and original plot twists, and true character stories I would be pleasantly surprised but... After Dragon Age II, after the demo (which is fun but no way good) and the trailers I truely think that is all you have to offer, so I won't even bother scratching the surface. There is nothing beyond the surface. Wish I could revert to my youth... Oh boy I would love this game as a teenager. Now I can only enjoy it somewhat. I am too old for Holywood cliche. But I play the game to death!!! Hell yeah!

On a side note. I am a straight guy but Keith David's husky voice always makes me understand why a woman would fall in love with a man. And Anderson's dialogs are the only mature dialogs in the demo. Wish Bioware would stop confusing juvenile sex and violance fantasies with mature dialogs of professional soldiers. Oh well...

Lol. I was wondering when someone was going to pull the "Prothean voice = BioWare dumbing down its games/EA stabbing us in the back with sharpened $$€€££¥¥ signs!!!"

Hilariously, going with a voice like Vigil's encourages the "planet of hats" archetype. That people are complaining that they made Prothy unique quite frankly boggles the mind.

The VA of Prothean squad member... That's the voice actor of Sarevok from Baldur's Gate series. The same man who also voice acted ex-Jedi Jolie Bindo in Bioware's original Kotor game. Man his voice is wild. I think he should have voice acted Conan the Barbarian. A very talented guy. Knows where to start, where to pause and how to inflect but a Prothean? Nah... a Krogan!
