It's like Bioware hasn't learnt anything from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Now ME3 has it's very own Jar Jar Binks. As someone who was born and grew up in the Caribbean I find this to be highly racist and offensive.

Why? You don't hear Canadians getting offended every time Commander Shepard open his mouth.

That's what you think. I was so offended by Shep's voice that I cancelled my pre-order.

Again.

Am I then only one who's hearing dear Arnold here?

But yeah. This is bad. I will have to suppress laughter every time this guy opens his mouth if its legit.

Gettin' a little racist up in here.

Stay classy, BSN.

Why not, Chez?

BSN has every other form of prejudice represented. Can't forget racism, that'd leave the cycle of hate incomplete.

Solution: don´t buy the dlc. According to the few information in the leaks it doesn´t make much sense anyhow how this prothean managed to survive, but none of the ME1 protheans from Ilos did.

I would have prefered if he was a VI of some prothean (actually i would be cool if he was a repaired Vigil from ME1), not a real prothean. I´m afraid Bioware will come with a really poor excuse as to why this guy is alive, he seems like an afterthought.

Why would someone from the Caribbean find it offensive that Bioware used an african accent for one of their characters? Image IPB

There's hundreds of reasons of how one or more Protheans could have survived. I think it's less likely that they were all wiped out than there being a survivor.

The Protheans weren't as advanced as the Reapers, but they were advanced. I doubt Ilos was the only top secret facility of their empire..

I like the protheans voice, it's different and I think it does fit the appearance, I also like the dialogue choices, some sounded more hardened and others sounded concerned for the other races, but it also sounds superior in a way.

Umm if I remember correctly vigil wasn't speaking Prothean he was speaking English from what he had monitored from Sheperd and the team. There wasn't a reason for the Translators to translate what Vigil said... Now The Prothean speaks well Prothean its possible that is why he has an accent and Vigil didn't.

So much ignorance... It's really becoming, you should all know that.

I for one love the voice, and think they made the right choice by allowing his VA to use an Ethiopian accent for him. It suits the look of "tall greys" they chose to give him. best of the new characters introduced.

Not sure you understand what the word "ignorance" means.

Jar Jar Binks wasn't hated because of the accent, but because his entire character AND the accent was played for laughs by exploiting stereotypes. You could have switched out the accent for a regular american one, and he would STILL have been hated.

This isn't the case with Prothy, obviously. He isn't a character that is played for jokes, and neither is his accent. Absolutely NOTHING about him is stereotypical - quite the opposite. My theory on why he was given an african accent is because the culture of africa is old and powerful, and because it is the origin and cradle of mankind and the ancestral foundation of modern society, much like the Protheans laid the foundation of the current cycle of galactic civilization.

Also, Prothy's accent isn't Caribbean. If you really were Caribbean, you'd know.

If you've read this thread, then perhaps you don't know the meaning of the word.

Well you're the one who said it, so why don't you at least make some effort to explain what you are talking about? Is people's inability to identify the accent an indication of ignorance?

Yeah, part of my family is from the carribean, and while there are many islands and different accents for each, but Prothy's isn't one of them.

Not being able to discern an accent is an admission of ignorance of those accents. I was referencing the blanketed racism towards his voice.

- Labeling his accent wrongly (and assuming they are correct) when they know nothing about the various accents of Africa

- Acting as if a species can only speak in one unique way

- Judging based on raw audio pulled out of context

- Expecting every new character to sound white or "white based"

- Thinking hiring someone who speaks a way you aren't used to is a slap in the face, a direct insult, offensive, ect.

- Assuming knowledge on everything Prothean when we don't know barely anything about them.
