How does this break your immersion and not every alien that is not a quarian speaking in an American or Canadian accent?

I would have thought that was obvious. English or American English is the neutral form of Earths dominant language. Likely in a far distant future with centuries of cultural exchange, dialects, accents and even whole languages would disappear or at least be greatly diminished - a bit in the same manner American English dialects vary less than the original English ones. Aliens would naturally choose to learn the dominant human language in it's neutral form. Giving an alien an accent endemic to a specific regional part of Earth is therefore doubly detrimental to immersion.

I like Prothy's voice, it makes him sound like a proud Zulu warrior. Honestly, I think his voice commands a lot of respect, and sounds old and different when compared to the rest of the Series.

Garrus sounding American breaks my immersion. Why couldn't they have hired a voice actor from planet Xenu? Stupid stupid Bioware.

I wish they did that as well.
Fortunately there is this cool alternative called voice editing software.

Except that none of the aliens are speaking english, you have a translator that has the other species languages installed. When talking to thane he uses a word not in the translator if you're femshep and he's falling for you. An individual that sounds different may be an alien who actually learned english rather than one being translated by your software. You don't think the hanar are really talking, so maybe the prothean does learn english and that's just his accent from prothean to english? Don't know just think it's stupid to think of it as an earthen accent in a pseudo-sci-fi universe. Just think of it as an alien and think how bad ass he is.

His personal wiki has him listed as "Ian" in ME3. Given that games and movies use fake names for characters and projects, Prothean isn't a far jump from Ian. Besides, I've seen so much LOST, and I can spot that guy's voice anywhere. It's the same Ethiopian accent he used for Mr. Eko.

Listening back to all the raw files with an ear for him. I really think you might be right. Neat to see another great actor in these games. Too bad he couldn't have been the reveal instead of has-been Freddie Prinze.

The dialogue in combat sounds bad - as it does for the other unrevealed character.

The general dialogue in conversation is not too bad - so if masked with explosions, gun fire, biotics, tech and enemy troop noises it will probably be ok.

I don't know, but just hearing the voice it sounds so bad. So weird looking humanoid what looks like a big bug, sounds almost just like any ordinary black man. The Collector voices didn't sound anything like that.

Maybe he means it like I do when I think it's so bad, it's not the accent, it just sounds a way, A WAY too human and I think that if any creature should have very alien sounding voice.

Fyk0... the collectors had the voice of Harbinger... so your complaint about him not sounding like the collectors is just stupid. Also, how does it sound any more human than all the other alien races?

I know, but they still screamed when they died, and that sounded different. Probably the accent makes it sound a way too human for me, but when they reminds me of insects I would expect it sound something else than ordinary (black) man.

They sounded that way because of the modifications, did you see a mouth on those things?  And again, why does it matter that he sounds just as human as all the other aliens?

so there's an accent. What, did you think all Protheons sound the same? They aren't like turians, asari, or elcor
