No sh*t. I believe I've said that at least three times in this thread alone. It's vaguely West African, but difficult to pinpoint, most likely because it's affected.ITQuatro wrote...
Then the Prothean's accent is made up.
Edit: So...are you saying Aghdashloo is Indian?
Because she's not.

If this is some kind of sarcastic joke you are running, it's not working on anyone.

Great throaty voice, yeah. I thought it translated really well for a voice coming from a Quarian.

Jar Jar Binks wasn't hated because of the accent, but because his entire character AND the accent was played for laughs by exploiting stereotypes. You could have switched out the accent for a regular american one, and he would STILL have been hated.Raizo wrote...
It's like Bioware hasn't learnt anything from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Now ME3 has it's very own Jar Jar Binks. As someone who was born and grew up in the Caribbean I find this to be highly racist and offensive.
This isn't the case with Prothy, obviously. He isn't a character that is played for jokes, and neither is his accent. Absolutely NOTHING about him is stereotypical - quite the opposite. My theory on why he was given an african accent is because the culture of africa is old and powerful, and because it is the origin and cradle of mankind and the ancestral foundation of modern society, much like the Protheans laid the foundation of the current cycle of galactic civilization.
Also, Prothy's accent isn't Caribbean. If you really were Caribbean, you'd know.
First of all, how is african culture powerful? its not anymore poweful than any other culture, not at all.
and also africa being the cradle of mankind doesnt tell us anything about the first humans, you realize that the first humans did not look like modern africans and they didnt speak like them either, so that doesnt make sense to justify his african accent. all races have evolved parallel to each other since the first migration out of africa ca 100 000 years ago.
and also, africa did not set the foundation for modern society, not at all, that was the middle east with the mesopotamian civilizations, these societies where older and more advanced than egypt and any other civilization on earth.

Sounds a bit immersion breaking to me to be honest. The accent denotes african decent not befitting the alien origin of the Prothean. Similarly, I wouldn't have appreciated a bleedin' Scottish highlander accent or a lilly white Norwegian sing-song accent on an alien for that matter. Any talk about racism is a derailment in my opinion.
also this for all the people crying racism, i agree with Seraphael, a scottish or an indian accent would ahve sounded equally out of place on this character, it doesnt fit and honestly i will have a hard time to avoid laughing when listening to him, i expected a more alien voice, like a protoss, when the voice is alien enough, you wont notice an accent as long as it isnt too distinctive, that isnt the case with prothy and this accent hough.

Seriously complaining about a Prothean having a freaking accent is just too annoying. Hell multiple species in Mass Effect have aliens that have accents similar to humans but they varied. The same with the Protheans.
Also to those who assumed the Protheans were retconed are wrong. If you knew about their actual Empire there is a good explanation for the different Prothean looks we saw.

There is no issue of it not being the final voice. The demo build is from January. The files are right there along with all the other squadmates who will be available in the final game during the mission on Sur'Kesh. It's definitely the voice.

They were expecting the Protheans to have a voice that showed how old and awesome the entire Prothean race was. Even though that wouldn't make much sense because I doubt every single species have a voice to fit their entire culture.
