I was previously unable to join games reliably (felt like 1 in 10 attempts would actually work), and was NEVER able to join a game in progress.  Most of the time clicking the "Quick Match" button would just result in a "Your connection to the game has been lost" message.

Until...

I went to the firewall settings (pull up the control panel, search for firewall, click "Allow a program through Windows Firewall"), and checked the Home/Work (Private) box for the Mass Effect 3 demo, as seen here: imgur.com/2O8yx

Now I'm able to get into a game almost every time

I already have private selected and no joy, but thanks for offering this fix.
