Never been so sorry that EA bought Bioware...

The fact that origin is required is my biggest incentive to pirate this game. I have bought every Bioware RPG to date. I won't buy this one until it is released from origin

Just mentioning pirating games will get this thread locked by the EA thought police.

I'm sure it will. But until then I'll voice my opinion and the easiest way to have it seen by EA/Bioware is to put it here

No. You rail against it in a tiny way by boycotting the product. By refusing to buy, by signing a petition, by playing it on Xbox, whatever. Piracy just makes you a parasite.lgrevenl wrote...

Then let us wait for the King of the thought police, Mr End of Line himself.

Here are the frequently asked questions regarding Origin and Mass Effect 3:
Q: Will Origin be a requirement to play all versions of Mass Effect 3? (Digital and/or from a retail brick and mortar store)
A: Yes, Origin is required for all PC editions of Mass Effect 3, physical or digital.
Q: Is constant Origin connection required or is it a single one off authentication when the game is first installed. Is there also a limit to the number of installations available?
A: Mass Effect 3 will require a one time, single authorization for the single player game. There is no limit to the number of installs. Playing Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer will require a constant connection.
Q: Will ME3 be available on Steam?
A: During initial release Mass Effect 3 will be available on Origin and a number of other 3rd party digital retailers, but not on Steam at this time. Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content. We are intent on providing Mass Effect to players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers.
Q: Is there an opt in or opt out clause for data collection?
A: Users will be allowed to opt-out of Mass Effect 3 data collection from inside the game.
Q: I’ve seen reports that Origin is spyware. Is this true?
A: Origin is not spyware, and does not use or install spyware on user’s machines. In order to allow Origin to install games and their patches for everyone to use, Origin implements a permission change that results in Windows, not Origin, reviewing the filenames in the ProgramData/Origin folder. This is an ordinary Windows function, not an information-gathering process.
Q: Has the Origin EULA been updated following recent questions in Germany?
A: The German Origin EULA has been updated. For more information, please review the Origin EULA here: http://www.ea.com/1/product-eulas.
Q: Is there a double-opt in for Mass Effect 3 marketing emails for German residents?
A: Yes, we always adhere to the German requirement of a double opt-in standard for marketing emails. Mass Effect 3 users must opt-in twice to receive these emails.
Q: Can I install Origin, install Mass Effect 3 and then uninstall Origin and keep playing Mass Effect 3? Even if I only want to play the Single Player Game?
A: Mass Effect 3 requires Origin to be played, so you cannot play Mass Effect 3 without Origin being installed. This applies to both the single player and multiplayer games.
Q: If I have uninstalled Mass Effect 3 or Origin, do I need to reinstall Origin to reinstall Mass Effect 3?
A: You must have Origin installed to play Mass Effect 3. You would need to reinstall Origin and Mass Effect 3.[/b]
Q: If I have installed Mass Effect 3 and Origin, do I need to keep the install/gameplay disc in the disc drive to play?
A: Once you have installed Mass Effect 3 and Origin, you do not have to keep the disc in the tray

Actually, that depends really. Some say using an extra program file to bypass an application's security/anti-piracy features is considered piracy. Yet others say it is simply unauthorised duplication. According to the law in my country, i am legally allowed to duplicate whatever i legally own. As long as i am the only one with the copies. As soon as i share it, then it becomes illegal. I am also legally allowed to bypass the security and anti-piracy features if i wish, as long as i legally own the product.

Did you even buy ME2? Cuz I can't see the corresponding icon under your avatar.
The icon is just for registering the game on this website, nothing more. And doing so is 100% optional.
(most do anyway as its considered a bragging rights - look at me! i have shiny!)

Fair enough. But you still legally own the product you're duplicating (etc). I take it that the OP was talking about not purchasing the product at all, and possibly downloading a cracked copy from somewhere. That was the form of piracy I was talking about, and I think it's indefensible. The kind of things that SOPA /ACTA want to include under the term 'piracy', on the other hand, aren't piracy at all.MouseNo4 wrote...

ummm.... 1. Boycotting the product, yes I am
2. Petition? If there were one I'd sign it, but in lieu of that, I'm posting here.
3. Playing on a different platform? Well that would defeat the point.
