I'm making a non-nova Vangaurd tank that uses the calymore (or maybe a regular shoty).  In alliance training when given the choice of weapon damage or 20 carry points or 20% lighter weapons which is better also which of the carry wieght options has bigger impact.

If you'll be using *anything* other than a heavy pistol and/or an SMG, whenever you see "weight reduction"/"capacity", pick it, otherwise your cooldowns will be too long.
And carrying the Claymore with a Vanguard is asking for trouble; too slow, too heavy.

I've been doing it pretty well on another account where I took both weight reduction perks like a ninja hit man; run up claymore to the face charge to find cover reload, flanking high priority enemies. On silver haven't done gold yet. I feel like with the other shotguns it takes to long to put enemies down you can't one shot anyone with shields.

Go light (e.g. Pistol only), spam Nova and Charge (take the double Nova version). Makes you invincible (almost).

I'd only use the Claymore as a krogan Soldier, unfortunately. Loved the weapon In ME2.

You can have Pistol and Avenger and have +200% recharge speed, if your specc is right. =]

It was glorious.

Play drell...max charge, pull, drell passive and divide the rest among fitness and cluster grenade. Give a scimitar and the carnifex...perfect character for almost all situations.

I'd rather not use nova it's the lamest crap ever in a MP game, ruins the game for everyone else. The point of a vanguard in M2 was you had to quickly line up a shot after charging which took some skill nova is just a button mashing crap fest.

Vanguards are typically agressive; that is their signature style so of course they'll be getting most of the kills (it's accumulated points that matter at the end of the day though). The only other way to keep up with a Vanguard kills-wise is probably to play one yourself.

That said the Claymore really does eat up your recharge bonuses even with it being the only one equipped. An upgraded Katana is the better choice for a shotgun build though.

Pretty much only play Gold now. Vanguard is incredibly powerful on Gold, but you need the fastest recharge times and kill most stuff with Nova/Charge. This makes you very powerful and since you replenish your barrier/stun enemies all the time, you will not die too often. In one gold game, sabresandiego was Vanguard for our team and I think he died only three times plus one instagib by Atlas. We won that game easily. Did not even have the asari.
