I just finished the Dalish Elves quest chain, and there is this guy standing in my camp, requesting
all kinds of materials in exchange for some experience.
One of the materials you can turn in is elfroot, which you can buy an unlimited supply off at the main dalish camp.
Is this intended to be like this or will the amount of experience gradually drop?
As of now I have gained more then 10 000 experience points from it, but it feels like cheating.
Any thoughts?

Congratulations, you're raising the difficulty of all scaling encounters and not really gaining anything.

What do you mean?
Is there a limit on how much experience u can get this way or not?
And is it just the main character that can level like that, or is it the entire party that gains xp?

Entire party gains xp, but I consider it cheating. Instead I just donated gold for Arl's army several times.

It's only virtually unlimited.
It's limited by the amount of money you can get in the game. But, it's plenty to get to the level cap of 25 without glitching.

runscript addxp (enter amount)
There you go, if your going to fool the system, go all the way.

I've tried this to no avail. The tiny amount of experience I gain from giving 99 Elfroot(s) to the box is abysmal compared to what I can gain from merely poking a Darkspawn's behind for seven seconds.
You must've had greenfingers~
