Originally I loved the idea behind the guns/weight to power recharge tradeoff.  It adds a great deal of customization to your character and playstyle.

My problem is that I have yet to find a weapon that is worth carrying over the phalanx.  For every class I've played (especially vanguard and adept), the faster recharge is much more valuable then additional damage output from a gun.  A lot of the formerly good guns (especially the revenent and viper) feel nerfed, powers are better, and pistols are just as good as before.  You can certainly do fine with more weapons and slow recharge, but I'd argue the most powerful build would be w/ a pistol or SMG and crazy power recharge.  Thoughts?

Hm, don't know what your problem is. My asari adept is equipped with a mattock and has a recharge time of one sec for throw. A shorter recharge time wouldn't do any good, since the animation for throw already takes that long.
It's a bit different for the male adept, but singularity is still around 1.7 sec with mattock.

I think the system is great. It's because of this system, that ppl even think of equipping anything else aside from the top weapon of a tier. Who would have bothered with the avenger in ME2?

The problem is the power of both the Phalanx and Carnifex.

You can get the same recharge speed bonus by using Avenger. Invest points in (the last?) Fitness talent that reduces weight of all weapons by 20%.

Your problem is that you don't read any of the other threads.

Not all character concepts require epic power recharge time, you know. Human Soldier and Turian Sentinel work better for me with Claymore or Revenant than with the Phalanx, whereas the Asari Adept works better with one of the light pistols.

Ehh I much prefer Mattock X on a lot of my classes, especially ones I don't want to power spam on i.e. soldiers, Turian sentinel, even quarian engineer.

This pretty much.

On any class, I simply don't see the need to use anything other than the Carnifex.

I love pistols but nothing for me. Sure you have a scope but I prefer my bolt action Mantis and Widow. I enjoy the suppressive and aggressive aspect of the Revenant as well. Pistol are fun for clean, surgical killing but I already got both ways to do so.

I used the Scimitar for a while, but found that the faster charge/nova combos + pistol was much more effective then charge + scimitar + wait + charge. The only time you should get downed as a vanguard is during a charge cooldown, so the mild damage increase from a scimitar over a pistol just isn't worth it.

Vanguards NEVER get downed. They just take a nap whilst waiting for the rest of the team to catch up.

My problem with the weight system: Logic. These soldiers can run around perfectly fine in a large suit of armour, but carrying a tiny pistol hinders their ability to use their biotic powers?

I wonder if the OP is playing on silver/gold often. I'm an Asari Adept who only uses a phalanx and I could probably solo bronze pretty easy for the most part, but on silver and especially gold that's a different story. Really, there have been plenty of rounds where I've hardly shot anything, since I pretty much don't have a recharge time now, so it's biotic explosion after biotic explosion to kill people.

I only use my pistol when I'm in trouble or just stasis someone without creating a bomb. If someone is carrying one weapon for higher recharge then they're probably relying on their powers too and that one weapon should be a good one. Someone with a sniper rifle, shotty, or assault rifle is still going to have a much easier time shooting if they know how to use them.

You already found it. It's the M-3 Predator.
Once you master the rapid headshot-delivering in CQB, and add a scope for long range encounters, you won't find the need to use anything else.

Now you have more factors to consider if you want to use the gun. I find it to be great system, now you can use any gun you want and you have to be bit tactical about it.

Bioware really solved this issue in a good way.

Didn't notice any diffirence when carrying my pistol, it was +200%.

What I don't get is how when I carry my M-3 Predator alone, it doesn't seem to weigh me down and affect my cool down, but if I were to add it to another gun, it'll suddenly have weight.

Other than that, I like the weight system. Makes you more strategic.

Like Avenger, it's a really light gun. :)

That's because that's the minimum weight you can possibly have, is the Predator. You literally HAVE to have at least one weapon. Hell, I'd go weaponless on a couple classes if I could, but you can't.

200% is the max, because they're not going to have your empty weight as, say, 220%, when you can't even go weaponless, so they simply made the "max" what it would be with the lightest weapon available.
