My problem with the weight system

My problem is that I have yet to find a weapon that is worth carrying over the phalanx. For every class I've played (especially vanguard and adept), the faster recharge is much more valuable then additional damage output from a gun. A lot of the formerly good guns (especially the revenent and viper) feel nerfed, powers are better, and pistols are just as good as before. You can certainly do fine with more weapons and slow recharge, but I'd argue the most powerful build would be w/ a pistol or SMG and crazy power recharge. Thoughts?

It's a bit different for the male adept, but singularity is still around 1.7 sec with mattock.
I think the system is great. It's because of this system, that ppl even think of equipping anything else aside from the top weapon of a tier. Who would have bothered with the avenger in ME2?

The problem is the power of both the Phalanx and Carnifex.
This pretty much.
On any class, I simply don't see the need to use anything other than the Carnifex.

The only time you should get downed as a vanguard is during a charge cooldown, so the mild damage increase from a scimitar over a pistol just isn't worth it.
Vanguards NEVER get downed. They just take a nap whilst waiting for the rest of the team to catch up.

I only use my pistol when I'm in trouble or just stasis someone without creating a bomb. If someone is carrying one weapon for higher recharge then they're probably relying on their powers too and that one weapon should be a good one. Someone with a sniper rifle, shotty, or assault rifle is still going to have a much easier time shooting if they know how to use them.

Once you master the rapid headshot-delivering in CQB, and add a scope for long range encounters, you won't find the need to use anything else.

Bioware really solved this issue in a good way.

Logic. These soldiers can run around perfectly fine in a large suit of
armour, but carrying a tiny pistol hinders their ability to use their
biotic powers?
Didn't notice any diffirence when carrying my pistol, it was +200%.

Other than that, I like the weight system. Makes you more strategic.

What I don't get is how when I carry my M-3 Predator alone, it doesn't seem to weigh me down and affect my cool down, but if I were to add it to another gun, it'll suddenly have weight.

Like Avenger, it's a really light gun.

That's because that's the minimum weight you can possibly have, is the Predator. You literally HAVE to have at least one weapon. Hell, I'd go weaponless on a couple classes if I could, but you can't.
200% is the max, because they're not going to have your empty weight as, say, 220%, when you can't even go weaponless, so they simply made the "max" what it would be with the lightest weapon available.
