I find this discussion weird. In any given pay-through, unless a character discusses which way they lean (and in DA2 only
one really came out and said she would screw anything attractive), they are on your "team" so to speak.

A programmatic bit lip from bat to carpet doesn't make a girl bi. I don't play ME and combine each play-through in some gestalt meta-frou frou experience.

That's what I'm assuming.  Has it been leaked that Kaidan does flirt first with a male Shep in ME3?  I didn't even think he was a confirmed S/S LI.

In which case the "he's not gay/bisexual in your game" argument no longer applies.

I'm not sure auto-flirt is the right term. It happens during friendship with Kaidan, so if the relationship isn't friendly, you don't get flirted with. However, that does still raise issue for those who want a very purely platonic friendship with him.

Personally, I don't care as long as I get clearly identifiable and accessable options to turn love interests down, without too much fuss.

Cortez seems completely player initiated.

Bioware should've chucked in some classy new s/s romances for those who want it. Instead of changing old characters. But the VS has always got the short end of the stick, and only either Ashley or Kaidan is alive in any playthrough. So Bioware always do a half-assed job when it comes to them. It’s always 50/50 every time.

You assume they did it 'to be lazy' when it could have been a concious design choice in order to:

1) provide more options for those who want s/s romances
2) provide options with familiar characters instead of sticking us with one new pilot dude and one chick no one knows anything about.

Kaidan doesn't seem to be one of them. It appears he outright says he wants male Shepard, without the player having to choose to flirt.

You'd think after all the crap Bioware got for the Anders thing they would know by now to make the player make the first move. I hate it when characters hit on the player character. It's annoying and akward that Liara is in love with me no matter what I do, I don't want Kaidan to be too.

I don't know how in depth these leaks are. Do you know if the script says that he always does this, even if you're in a relationship with someone else? That might be my ticket to avoid that awkward conversation.

+9,000.  I wouldn't be surprised if there are some people out there who are irritated that there's an option to play a female Shepard, simply because the possibility that others might play a female version somehow infringes on the maleness of their own characters.

Well relationships in ME aren't that great. If everyone is bi, I'm expecting a whole lot of prematurely aborted friendship arcs. Not to mention that the Jack situation was really uncomfortable. If your femshep tried to become friends with her, she mistakes it for hitting on her and then starts being rude from that point after.

Edit: DA2 romances did fail because there wasn't anything that indicated a romance was on or off.  I tried to romance Anders, but it failed because I neglected to choose the only "flirt" dialogue choice that mattered. Sooooo I ended up in a *chaste marriage* with Sebastian whatever that means.

Thankfully the aborted friendship arcs don't happen so much anymore.

You can still be friends with the VS and Liara (and Garrus and Tali I assume) without romance being necessary.

Thank god for that because that crap was irritating.

Ha thats part of life anytime your different then the "Societal norm" you should expect games, movies or any way of entertaining the masses to be different then you. Also I think giving them an option or two creates a more realistic world where being gay does limit you choices because the majority of people just aren't gay.

I don't know about you, but I don't play futuristic space opera RPGs for the realistic population ratios. Turians are just fine, but gay Turians are weird?
