As far as I can recall, it was never known for sure he was dead.  No one saw the body.  Just because the rumor stated so, does not mean that it was true.

maybe, but the overall tone was always...DEAD.  if not by direct confirmation, then by the fact that he was so unlikely to have survivied that it wasn't funny.  and even though i normally wouldn't complain much about reserrections that mess with my own personal DAverse (after all, that would be exceedingly self-centered), the fact that he actually yanked the man out of a marginally well-established grave in everyone's DAverse is a bit...much.

In a world where people can be healed with a wave of a hand, or can allow a spirit/demon to take up residence within their body, death isn't met so easily. I don't know that anyone was so much yanked out of a grave as they were tugged out of the shadows of mystery - there's a large element of the unknown when the term "lost" is used to describe someone's absence.

(So too, there is no proof positive regarding identity as of yet.)

Wait... there was never a tone conveyed at all of him being only dead. 2 years ago DG said he was lost at sea and no one knew what happened to him.

Recently, we have a codex that reinforces the idea that he was lost at sea, where rumors persisted stating where he was possibly held.

Prisoners -- especially prisoners of such an important status as this guy's -- can be held for years on end. If they wanted him dead, they would've killed him. But they captured him. They wanted him kept alive. Why, I don't know. But they obviously wanted him alive, even if he was going to be tortured and starved on occasion.

I don't know who "they" be, but "they" be important, and will earn the ire of the man's native homeland.

And as whykikyouwhy said, there isn't even a definitive identity on the man in question yet. It does seem highly likely though -- nay, pretty damn obvious -- that it's going to be the actual person we are led to believe it is.

Though I have to wonder what his line at the end is supposed to mean.

EDIT: Removed the spoilers.

Nice spoilers, folks. *Sigh*
Anyway, what I came here to say....
I'm really enjoying this. Kudos to all involved. It's a bit disconcerting that Alistair has red hair and blue eyes, but hey, that's a small thing when everything else is so interesting and fun. Well done!

That'd be solely my fault methinks. Everyone else didn't name names, but I unfortunately did (I have edited it to not be spoilerific). Sorry about that.

I wondered that too. If it isn't the person we're led to believe it is, I assume it simply means that the person Alistair was looking for is dead or gone. Though if it is Alistair's target, I'd interpret it as meaning that even if he escapes Velabanchel his mind and body are too far gone. Or just a bad joke (like Gandalf's whole, "a wizard is never late" thing).

I can appreciate you perceived it that way.  Personally I always thought he would pop up somewhere due to having a private conversation with Flemeth during one of the books (I think the first one) and giving me the feeling that his story was not done.

I am eagerly awaiting the next one (one week from today!) and I'm thrilled that Alistair is being revisited in this comic.  I love DA:O and I will always be a Fereldan girl! :D

Gaider said very clearly several times that one day he was going to deal with what happened to Maric... I'm very glad he got the opportunity.

some stories are never done.  and honestly, the DAverse isn't the only one where people just won't DIE already.  it's too big a temptation for writers, i suppose.  as someone who refuses to publish her fanfic because i have to resort to awful devices like that, i totally get it.  but i totally agree that it's good to see Al again.  and both issues have been as snarkalicious as i was looking forward to!

I don't think that Alistair's actual age has ever been established. Has it? (Anyone know?) I personally doubt he's much older than 30 at this point (at the oldest), but that's just a guesstimation based on his appearance and the amount of time that passes between DAO and the end of DA2 and whenever the events of the comic are occurring (Edit: apparently he has been ruling for almost a decade so yeah, I'm sticking with not much older than 30 at the most).

Also, #3 comes out tomorrow. Yay!

So right now they're only selling digital copies? I kind of wanted a physical copy but lol I don't really buy comics so I don't know which store I could go and buy a physical copy.

Yes, only digital. I thought the same thing at first. But the platform on Dark Horse is actually pretty nice and easy to use.
