Hi Everyone

Below, please see a message from BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka in regards to the recent attacks on Jennfer Hepler.

Jennifer is a valued, talented employee who has been with BioWare for many years and we hope will be with us for many more. It is awful that a few people have decided to make her a target for hate and threats, going so far as fabricating forum posts and attributing them to her, and singling her out for projects to which she has not contributed (i.e., Jennifer is not even a part of the Mass Effect writing team). All of us at BioWare support and will continue to support Jennifer fully, and are happy to see so many people out there are also supporting her during this difficult time.

 - Dr. Ray Muzyka. Co-Founder of BioWare; General Manager, BioWare Label; Senior Vice President, Electronic Arts

Additionally we will be making a donation of $1000 in Jennifer's name to Bullying Canada. Please feel free to also donate to this worthy cause in support.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported Jennifer and BioWare in this difficult time. :)

I saw that post on Reddit when that was going on. Could not believe how far people took that. No-one bothered to check the source obviously.

Disgusting.

Really, it was absolutely deplorable what people did to her. I truly believe they are in minority and I hope she see's we are not all like those people.

I really don't understand those kind of people that likes to bully everyone else that thinks different...
and much more when they start to hate someone for things that are not entirely true...

Those people really need to grow up...

Yes, saw this on Destructoid, and it is disgusting indeed. Wish her all the best from this Mass Effect fan, and I am happy to see the support this has brought for her from the community and from Bioware.

I'm sorry, I missed something here (I got here from the BW twitter feed). What exactly was said about miss Hepler that warranted this response?

I wholeheartedly agree that all of the attacks on her were reprehensible, but I also feel that it's fair to say that her quote "I just figure they're jealous that I get to have both a vagina AND a games industry job, and they can't get either." was incredibly unprofessional and somewhat deluded. "They are all just jealous" is the most shallow, vain retort a person could possibly have, even to personal attacks. The people that attacked her are idiots, but her response did not show much humility or insight.

Too broke to donate, but major kudos on the timely support and for taking the opportunity to support and draw attention to a charity.

Thankyou so much for doing this. Your support is reaching farther than you realise.

(And I've been quietly simmering about the bullying against BioWare, and Hepler in particular, for a while now.)

I love bullying Canada(c'mon, you guys have a leaf on your flag lol), but I don't think this writer deserved any of this, heck, no one deserves the kind of language that was flung at her.

Too much **** on the internet, sadly. I won't write down everything thats on my mind cause i don't think it would be appropriate here.

Good reaction though.

Thanks for this statement of support. Hepler is one of my favorite BioWare writers and I was disgusted by the attacks on her. The donation is a great touch. :)

I just don't understand why people go to all these lengths to bully a person over a few things she might have said years back. Regardless of how you feel about her writing, the discussion has completely derailed.

If you do not like a product, you can say so eloquently & move on, why spend all this energy on what seems to be a personal vendetta? Inconceivable!

I want to show my support to her and hope she gets through this without too much issues, I know what it's like being bullied, but thankfully not to this extend.

Good to see Bioware is squarely behind her. I definitely hope she keeps on writing the awesome characters in the great games I love!

Good on you, Bioware!! When I saw the Reddit and Twitter attacks against Jennifer, my heart dropped - as someone in the game industry, I can understand what it's like to be in this kind of situation, and how heart-wrenching it is to have your words twisted and used (and then abused and slandered) against you.

This just makes me support the wonderful awesomeness that is Bioware, and their amazing employees, even more.

Jim Sterling from Destructoid hit the nail on the head with this part of his article on this whole thing:
"This is the kind of behavior that justifies the FOX News stereotype of the basement dwelling, antisocial nerd. This is the kind of behavior that makes the Spike VGAs look like the perfect gamer show -- because it's crass, immature, and it sports the emotional depth of a wet paper towel. That's how gamers look when something like this happens."

I am so glad to see Bioware responding to this - the past few days have just left me sickened. It's good to see the donation to Bullying Canada too.
