I bet you're one of the people that actually like FFXIII
And that's not BW's fault.
You want to blame someone? Blame the people who see FPS after FPS breaking records in game sells and bringing in big bucks for seeing a target and wanting to go after it. They want to make money. They go where the money is. Do I always like it? Nope. But I deal with it.
Actually no. Nice try though.

Since when do people use the word bullying to refer to adults criticizing another adult anyway?
I may be wrong, but I don't think telling someone they should off themselves for the work they've done is very effective critisism.

Two wrongs dont make a right much? Both parties are responsible. If you get punched in school then you are not allowed to punch back otherwise it is a fight. The only reason why it would be justified in the case of a shooting is because your life is in immediate danger. That wasn't the case here.Remmak wrote...

Now you're contradicting yourself. If a name call is a name call, then that is the way it is 100% of the time. No buts about it. It doesn't matter if the circumstances are defending oneself or instigating an altercation. A=A
An accurate way to defend herself would be to call the police and say that X people are harrassing her, that is defense. Name calling them back or bad mouthing them saying that they can not get any vagina doesn't defend herself in any way.
No I'm not contradicting myself at all. Think of a name call as a bullet. Someone fires one at you and you fire one back. Who is going to be held legally reponsible? The one who shot first, even though you both fired guns. Self defense is justified.
Saying name calling back is not defense is like saying name calling is not an attack. If someone punches you, do you sit there or do you put your hands up and swing back?
But name calling back isn't a defense. It is an attack. Like you originally said, a name call is a name call. Unless you want to backtrack, 100% of the time it is an attack. That is what she did. (I'm not arguing whether its justified in her case, just that it is an attack).

The behavior of some of the people claiming the title of BW fans or hardcore gamers is shameful and is something that should be talked about, it should be brought to light, and Bioware has done the right thing by speaking against it.
Proud to call myself a fan of BW's games and company today, seriously. I hope to see more of Jennifer's work in the future (

Because I can't. I still love Bioware deep down inside. I want them to change.
But they'll keep pandering to people who don't even like RPGs.
You wanting someone to change doesn't mean squat if they don't want or see no reason to change.
Who cares! Find a dev that will pander to your tastes and call it a day. BW aren't the only RPG writers out there.
I bet you're one of the people that actually like FFXIII
....I actually like Dragon Quest 8.
Best damn Dragon Quest game ever.

No one is above criticism, and, in fact, helpful and constructive criticism is crucial to the continued quality of EVERY form of entertainment.
What has happened here is so far over every single line of not just effective criticism, but HUMAN ****ING DECENCY, that I can't believe there's actually discourse over whether or not it's acceptable.
Jennifer Hepler may in fact be the absolute worst writer on the entire goddamn planet, and she is still not deserving of personal attacks, criticisms against her physical appearance, telephone calls to her house, threats against her and her family, gendered insults about her how forever alone she is, homophobic slurs against her support of same sex romance, or almost ANYTHING that's being said.
There are so, SO many valid and helpful ways to express disapproval of a writer. This is NOT expression of criticism. This is a coordinated and vicious attack against a PERSON, who people are holding responsible for something that, even if she IS responsible for (which she 100% is not), is that even a very big DEAL. It doesn't matter if Jennifer Hepler literally DESTROYED ALL VIDEO GAMES, they are a hobby and a form of entertainment and in NO WAY deserving of the sort of bile that could result in this sort of dogpile.
Everything about it is absolutely, utterly sick.
Jennifer Hepler is one of many people on a team of people who made a game that a lot of people don't like. A game that people don't like so much that they don't like it more than that don't like genocide, or hate crimes, or child pornography, or war crimes. She's a lightning rod for a bunch of things that she has very little to actually do with. NONE of this is logical, helpful, or IN ANY WAY acceptable.
You know what the really funny thing is? I don't even really care that much Ms. Hepler's characters! Anders is too melodramatic and overwrought for me. Sebastian is a bit bland and underutilized. I thought Orzammar was the least engaging of the main plot segments in DA:O. I'm not rushing to the defense of something fictional that I have way too big a stake in. It offends me that a PERSON, whose crimes even in the worst case scenario are absolutely insignificant to anything of worth, is being threatened and harassed to a breaking point.
TL;DR: **** y'all.

Fav devs? Bethesda, I tend to like most Square games never was really fond of the FF series though, Atlus, some others that I don't recall the name of. My game tastes aren't that picky. If it's fun I'll play it.

Madlaughter, that's not ignorant at all. :] The term feminism (I hope I'm corrected if I'm wrong), I believe actually derives from 'feminine', not 'female', as it is a movement concerned primarily with gender and gender roles/stereotypes, and not biological sex.
Although in recent years as feminism has recognised the broad, many factors that intersect with sexism, there has been some debate about the continuing relevance of the term.
Thanks for the response, just trying to be more educated on the subject. If the movement is about reducing the power of gender stereotypes as opposed to seeking true equality, then I can somewhat reconcile the title of it not being neutral.

I think it's fantastic that Bioware issued this statement in support of Jennifer. The flamewar apologists claim that "it's about wanting quality writing" or "it's not about misogyny" but when I tweeted to Jennifer to show my support, someone called me a "wh**e" within ten minutes. These attacks were fueled by the fact that she is a woman in a position of power within the video gaming industry and she has dared to voice her opinions about video games to the public.
The behavior of some of the people claiming the title of BW fans or hardcore gamers is shameful and is something that should be talked about, it should be brought to light, and Bioware has done the right thing by speaking against it.
Proud to call myself a fan of BW's games and company today, seriously. I hope to see more of Jennifer's work in the future (Anders)
So because one group of people are doing the wrong thing it means that any kind of negative comment against her can be dismissed as sexist?
I have several legitimate complaints about her views on games and writing. But mine are either ignored or passed off as sexist. Even though I'm not one of those calling for her death or anything crazy like that i'm still dismissed as one of them.
There are a lot of people doing the wrong thing here. But it doesn't change the fact that many of us have legitimate complaints.

Abusing, harrassing and bullying people is not criticism. You do realise that by doing it you completely invalidate whatever argument you may have.
Sometimes it takes extreme actions to get your point across when a forum deflects any sort of criticism with "L0L U TR0LL!!!"
