Thumbs up for this. I'd hoped for no less than a statement of support, and I'm very glad you made it.

I think its completely unfair and unreasonable of those people to post insulting and degrading comments about Jennifer Hepler. Its one thing to be critical and to criticize a persons work, but its entirely another thing to post libel about someone because you don't like what they are doing. It makes the rest of us Dragon Age Fans, look really foolish!

Let me make it very clear that anyone using this thread as a soapbox to tell the world why they feel this kind of childish, immature behaviour is warranted will be removed from the thread.

Because I can't. I still love Bioware deep down inside. I want them to change.

But they'll keep pandering to people who don't even like RPGs.

You wanting someone to change doesn't mean squat if they don't want or see no reason to change.

Who cares! Find a dev that will pander to your tastes and call it a day. BW aren't the only RPG writers out there.

The whole genre is in stagnation though. What should I do if a whole genre is becoming terrible all at once because of casuals?

I bet you're one of the people that actually like FFXIII

I liked KOTOR, I liked Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I also like the Witcher. I'm a huge fan of multiple RPGs out there. I don't why you think some of them suck. Gameplay too easy? Play a more difficult setting. Don't like the story? Skip the convos. Don't like the game? Return it.

putting up the difficulty is a terrible excuse. I want a real difficult game, not artificial difficulty bull****. Sorry.

Why would I skip convos in an RPG game?

^Assuming you're (that's a generalized "you're") playing for gameplay. If you're playing for story and you don't like it, return it. It sucks that you're disapointed with how BioWare is going, but most likely they won't change. You're wasting your time by waiting, sorry to say, but you should move on.

I really can't even fathom why there are people supporting the mistreatment Jennifer has gotten these past few days. It's repulsive and absolutely disgusting.

There is no, absolutely no, excuse to call a person in their own home and tell them to kill themselves. NONE. Over a game? Over their own personal opinion? Over trash that was taken a long time? NO. What those idiots at Reddit did was called harrassment. There is nothing justifiable in their actions. They are not the leaders in a 'crusade' for the video gaming industry. They are simply delusional butthurt nerdraging bullies. I can understand passion, but those actions crossed a line from constructive criticism. No one deserves this intensive bullying.

You don't have to support everything a writer does, but harrassing them like that will never get your point across. You simply look like an idiot massacring your cause.

Thank you, Bioware for showing your support and the donation to the organization. I hope Jennifer feels better, enjoys the rest of her maternity leave, and never has to deal with this **** again.

This so much.

I don't understand how an issue about the performance and "bullying" of Hepler has led to a discussion about feminism. Would it be alright with everyone if we took this discourse back to the subject of Hepler and our feelings on this matter?

To discuss how "sexist" some men on this board are for disagreeing with the feminist movement or because they used the word "female" instead of "woman" is a bit on the side of silliness.

It's a bit appalling that some people think that Hepler being harassed is because she's a woman in the gaming field. It is purely about her performance. Now, I will say that some people are using her gender against her which is highly inappropriate. Some people insult when they are angry and come to baseless arguments.

This is expected.

To point at this and say that's what everyone is upset about is just a way of diverting attention from the real issue at hand.

Please stop doing this, ladies and gents.

Respectfully, I disagree. Sexism is part of the real issue at hand here, as some of us have argued in this thread. To dismiss misogyny on the grounds of mere emotional reaction is problematic. As has been said, the attacks Hepler has suffered are not purely about her performance. It is likely that they were encouraged and worsened by anti-woma(y!)n prejudice. I will of course concede to the judgement of the mods if they state that discussion of feminism here is inappropriate. It seems patently obvious to me, however, that it is relevant here.

For the large part of this thread it's mostly been people from reddit gang harrassing and bullying, it's pretty pathetic I hope people can just get along and enjoy Biowares efforts to bring us all great gameplay and great stories on the future.

I wholeheartedly agree that all of the attacks on her were reprehensible, but I also feel that it's fair to say that her quote "I just figure they're jealous that I get to have both a vagina AND a games industry job, and they can't get either." was incredibly unprofessional and somewhat deluded. "They are all just jealous" is the most shallow, vain retort a person could possibly have, even to personal attacks. The people that attacked her are idiots, but her response did not show much humility or insight.

I don't believe it was the appropriate response, but I can excuse some pettiness considering the circumstance.

Bioware was born with us, they will die with us. The only question is how - through natural and peaceful means, or though war, tarnished image and bankrupcy. If they want to continue making consoleware shooters and dating sims -fine, but they need to change their brand name and publicly admit that this is entirely new company, with no history, that it has no ties to BG series, KOTOR and original DAO. We'll settle for nothing less.

]Two wrongs dont make a right much? Both parties are responsible. If you get punched in school then you are not allowed to punch back otherwise it is a fight. The only reason why it would be justified in the case of a shooting is because your life is in immediate danger. That wasn't the case here.

But name calling back isn't a defense. It is an attack. Like you originally said, a name call is a name call. Unless you want to backtrack, 100% of the time it is an attack. That is what she did. (I'm not arguing whether its justified in her case, just that it is an attack).

One of the ways of defending is to attack back. Otherwise you're just getting beat on, and I never said two wrongs make a right. Both parties are responsible for the consequences of their actions, I agree, but picking a fight and expecting someone not to fight you back is ludicrous, and the person who does fight back shouldn't be blamed for it. That is my issue. Hepler's comments were totally justified, and that was my argument, not whether or not name calling isn't the same thing. It is. Motive and intent, however, are not.

There is difference between attacking someone solely to cause harm and attacking someone in repsonse to being attacked. That is my point. The attackers were motivied by pettiness and hate and she was motiviated by the basic human need to protect the self. Big difference.

I've been lurking this thread for a while now, but now I had to reply: if you think this has to do anything with woman perjudice, sexism or anti-feminism then you are wrong. I could call this an anti-overweight crusade, I'm sure I could talk to people it's all because he is fat, but that wouldn't true.
