I wholeheartedly agree that all of the attacks on her were reprehensible, but I also feel that it's fair to say that her quote "I just figure they're jealous that I get to have both a vagina AND a games industry job, and they can't get either." was incredibly unprofessional and somewhat deluded. "They are all just jealous" is the most shallow, vain retort a person could possibly have, even to personal attacks. The people that attacked her are idiots, but her response did not show much humility or insight.

Well...while I agree that may not have been the best response....when someone personally attacks you like that do you always act civil? Because I don't. Sometimes people don't think before they speak...and sometimes people forget that these guys at Bioware ARE people too. I have seen some incredibly mean and horrible stuff flung around right here on BSN even, just because people didn't like one of their games or decisions.  I mean that was incredibly nice compared to what I'd have said in rage had I recieved some of the crap she did.

It's disgusting what people actually do to her. It's great to see you standing with her and the donation is a really nice touch

Some people just love to be idiots over the internet, because they can do whatever they want without anything happening to them. These are sad people who should be banned from the internet.

This is a really sad situation and i hope Jennifer is doing well. :)

I totally support this statement from Bioware!

I hope the people responsible for this are feeling really bad for what they have done. But sadly I don't think they do.

Happy to see BioWare standing up for Ms. Hepler. She's a great asset to the company, and even if you dislike someone's writing or contributions, there are proper ways to address that. What happened to her and to those who defended her is truly shameful.

I'm glad Bioware would support any employee through something like this.

Ive seen various references to this story, but not the story itself. What happened?

In a nutshell, someone took an interview/forum post of hers from ages ago (over a year?) and doctored it to include things she'd never said, then used it to fuel a hate campaign. But you can find more with a basic google search if you want the whole sordid story.

I think she hit it on the head. She has power they don't have, and is a *gasp* woman to boot! She doesn't have to be 'humble'. Getting into the industry as a woman is hard, and staying there (specially for as long as she has) is harder. More power to her.

Even when I admit to enjoying these whole "internet drama" situations, what happened to miss Hepler was not cool.
You have my support, and please keep making kick-ass games. Thank You!

Online bullying is getting worse and it shows that even people who come online with the good intentions of helping fans and answering their questions arnt immune to it.     The charity donation is a really generous offer and its nice to see Bioware show its support with something more tangible then just words.   Really awesome of you!

Hope Jennifer is not too down on all this and doesnt let the few spoil things.  The vast majority of people recognise whats happening and give her and you guys our full support.

I think Anders in DA2 was very well written.

Some people loved the obnoxious Anders/Zevran mage hybrid in Awakening, but I didn't. Anders was a changed, very flawed man in DA2 and Jennifer portrayed that very well.

I agree, some people speak without thinking, and I respect her right to defend herself.  But if she wasn't thinking, then she most likely said what her gut reaction was, what she really thought, uncensored and unfiltered.  Which is even more disappointing.  Calling people jealous is what a Paris Hilton, Situation, or a Kardashian would say.  It's vain and arrogant and shallow.  She's probably better than that, but still.  It's gross.

Jim Sterling from Destructoid hit the nail on the head with this part of his article on this whole thing:
"This is the kind of behavior that justifies the FOX News stereotype of the basement dwelling, antisocial nerd. This is the kind of behavior that makes the Spike VGAs look like the perfect gamer show -- because it's crass, immature, and it sports the emotional depth of a wet paper towel. That's how gamers look when something like this happens."

Agreed.

BioWare makes awesome games, and you also seem like a group of really decent people, too. I love Jennifer's writing, her desire to innovate games, and hope she continues with you for a long time.

IDK, I can't fault her for it though. I mean I might see it differently if it was like here on BSN using her Bioware account, but it was her twitter.  And people were calling her fat....that is horrible. Didn't she just have a baby? I want to cry thinking about how she must have felt.

I hardly post on here but thought I would add my appreciation for the support Bioware is giving Jennifer. I read some of what went on and was very sad and horrified at some of the attitudes. Thank you for the statement and well done on the donation.

i dont get it either i think it was for an interview she did 6 years ago, she was asked her opinion and if that is the case then i still dont get it its her op and she is one person out of a whole team, most of the other BW team wouldnt agree with her anyway as they are gamers themselves so i dont know why people are being such pricks to her.
