Were you one of the people originally attacking Jennifer? No? Then it's not directed at you.
If you were? Well, my sympathies are nonexistent. Either way, I've already addressed the whole position of 'WELL SHE DESERVED IT', and how it's not one that will continue in this thread.

I only now read about these events from Kotaku. It is sickening. I know the nature of online anonymity, having been with my gamer girlfriend for the past 4 years, but I cannot imagine how difficult it must be being a woman, a gamer, a mother, and working in this industry. Your work has been inspiring, and you have a perfectly valid perspective in wanting to spread the past time we love so much to people who, in their busy lives, cannot sit down and play the same way others might.
I agree with you, this shouldn't mean that storytelling has to take a back seat. I think that perspective has been embraced at Bioware evident in the development of three different ways to play the upcoming Mass Effect 3. Now each gamer, regardless of skill, capability or time investment can experience a deep and engaging story how they want. I suppose it was too much to ask people to get the full context out of a limited interview, just as it was too much to ask people to treat each other like human beings.
I'm really quite sorry that you haven't been treated fairly in any of this. I believe your work in this industry is fantastic and your perspectives refreshing and novel. I hope this doesn't affect your life anymore than it already has.
From one Canadian to another, it gets better, eh.
P.S. Just assuming you're a canuck, what with working at a great company like Bioware

That said, Mrs. Hepler's comment about them being jealous was not the best thing to say. Certainly, the personal attacks were not only unwarranted, but asenine. No one should have to be the target of threats, harassment, and everything else. But given her position at Bioware, I do think a certain level of decorum should be present and she shouldn't stoop to the same level of insults that these people are going to such lengths to give.
Granted, her retort did give me a chuckle. But it doesn't paint her in the best light either.
At any rate, I don't consider her a bad writer. She's responsible for the Anvil of the Void questline and for writing Branka and Hespith. That quest is my favorite for non-Dwarven characters, and pretty good for my Dwarf Noble. Just had one flaw for Xanthos Aeducan.

Sure she should not have done that, but can you really blame her? She has been insulted and abused for months, it got out of hand to the point where she had enough. You keep kicking a dog and they will bite you one day.Bladefist_01 wrote...

I thought this was a western country that supported free speech, not North Korea
It's a private web forum wherein we have certain rules people agree to when they post here. Don't like them? Don't post here!
If you think this is unfair, well, such is life. I suggest you write your local political representative.

However, the interactive part exists in talking, choosing which things to do. Do I talk my way through the situation? Do I steal the plans? Do I just kill the person holding them? Do I convince him to give them to me so that he can have sex with one of my companions?
Ahh you say, there is a fight there... Yes indeed there is, it is very important, and should in itself be interesting. Tactical but "realistic". Just play Baldurs Gate and take random the npc. The fights are quite interesting because of the large amount of spells and skills which are very powerful. Some final fantasy games (the turnbased ones) have a few tactical things one can learn. Dont be afraid to make combat very quick.
Ahh you say, but what makes games fun is multiplayer, neither this is a problem. Just build your game from the ground up to be a great storydriven RPG with multiplayer. But then we have to have fetch quests... No we dont, there are several ways to solve this...
AKA dont get stuck in your own world and have your own truths, and bladibla other stuff. Going to bed goodnight

It makes it even worse when there are even some here at the BSN that engage in the same effect. It is one of reasons why I venture here as much as I once did.

As I originally explained - if you'd like to talk about her comments and her work in a respectful fashion, please, feel free.
However, there's no situation where the kind of harrassment that happened is in any way acceptable, and if you believe otherwise, we are operating under completely different concepts of appropriate human conduct.

You're in a private forum run by a private company, and I don't see any government funding involved. Here's my suggestion: go stand on a street corner and complain about having your (undoubtedly pathetic) comment deleted - you'll have all the free speech you want there.
Along with a slew of people pointing out how idiotic he is.
It's people like him -- along with the people that attack Mrs. Hepler for a comment she made 6 years ago that was simply about her personal tastes due to how she doesn't have time these days -- that makes me have little faith in humanity.
