I'm glad Bioware is supporting thier employees. Having critisim is alright. Being an total jerk by using personal attacks and worse isn't alright. Those attacks that I've read was disgusting and uncalled for. Jennifier we have your support the fans of Bioware, your work and thier games we are supporting you.

You are completely right.

Were you one of the people originally attacking Jennifer? No? Then it's not directed at you.

If you were? Well, my sympathies are nonexistent. Either way, I've already addressed the whole position of 'WELL SHE DESERVED IT', and how it's not one that will continue in this thread.

Whatever happened to "both sides of the story can be discussed"?

As I originally explained - if you'd like to talk about her comments and her work in a respectful fashion, please, feel free.

However, there's no situation where the kind of harrassment that happened is in any way acceptable, and if you believe otherwise, we are operating under completely different concepts of appropriate human conduct.

But all he did was quote her own words.

I have to say that it's astounding how a revival of a comment made years ago -- along with forgeries of stuff she apparently "said" -- can attract trolls to the forum.

Bull**** will always attract flies.

I thought this was a western country that supported free speech, not North Korea

It's a private web forum wherein we have certain rules people agree to when they post here. Don't like them? Don't post here!

If you think this is unfair, well, such is life. I suggest you write your local political representative.

I do believe that is within our civic duty as citizens to try to represent the ideas our respective nation's constitutions lay out for us. Even if it is a private forum for a private company, supressing free speech just makes you look fellas look like tyrants.

Suppressing speech solely because it is not within your own personal worldviews is beyond childish, as well as editing this gentlemen's post.

Consumers have every right to complain about how they are being served. They got angry because they were provoked, not to mention another Bioware employee "fed the trolls" by starting to tell them to "F*ck off" and etc.
Miss Hepler is just an example of how Bioware's writing is starting to show signs of getting worse and worse, they should really address this problem.

There's no such thing as 'both sides' in a bullying situation. Stop blaming the victim.

Wow I guess the trolls have come on this forum too. I should tell you to grow up.

How exactly am I trolling? I mean really? I should grow up? I took no part in any of this but if you serious think that this is acceptable then you are the one who needs to mature. This was said BEFORE a lot of the name calling, which I still disagree with.

Same could be said about posting inflammatory remarks on twitter, an actual open forum for discussion. If you can't take the heat, don't go into the kitchen.

Good on you guys! <3 Jennifer, and I hope things calm down for her. I'm so sorry she has to deal with all this over such a silly little thing.

Chin up, girl. We love you!

Let's be clear - this isn't a debate.

The post was intended to be read in a specific fashion. If I misread it, I'm sorry, but I really doubt that to be the case.

And this particular sidebar is done.

Jennifer did NOT deserve any of the hate that she got. If you dislike how she portrayed a character, or wrote something in, you don't go on an immature rampage and go so far as to do what those haters did. There are several ways to address what you disliked in a mature, kind manner, and not let anyone's feelings get so hurt. I am disgusted by the response of those who disliked what she did or said, and I'm very proud of Bioware for sticking up for her. Keep on rocking Bioware games Jennifer, because in my opinion, you're doing an amazing job. Also, I have a vagina, and I'd love to have a job in the games industry, and it's great that you've achieved what you have.

Your perspective is recognized. I also disagree with it. Keep in mind that the concept of free speech is often different between international borders, so one cannot simply assume that any and all speech is 'free'.

'Creative' use of the caps lock to make insulting comments about someone's weight is not a viewpoint I'm particularly concerned about respecting, sorry.

And this sidebar is over.

Not sure if it's relevant but i keep thinking of this quote when on this thread.

"You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time"

I always support Helper and Bioware (the latter especially in the case of the Dragon Age universe). We need good writers, and she definitely qualifies.

4CHAN IS FULL OF BULLIES!!!

They are the ones responsible for all the bullying of Mrs Helper! If you guys want to get back at them go to boards.4chan.org/v/

It's so sad that a bunch of teenagers on the internet get mad over some video game writing. And then when they finally say something, they attack the PHYSICAL APPEARANCE of the writer!

Wow, a new low 4chan.

Get a life losers!

Have you ever heard of common human decency? The fact that people are oblivious, hateful and think they can say anything they want doesn't make it okay just because the policies on sites/forums/Twitter may allow it to go on. And if you think it's okay, well, I don't want you on my team if there's ever an actual zombie apocalypse (I keep hoping one happens in the forums, more and more with each day that passes here :P ).

I didn't insult her intelligence, her weight or anything. The point is, she really needs to think about what is important in her work. And thats knowing what she is working for. She didn't deserve all the comments about her weight, but the complaints about the writing are pretty clear imho. They are targetting her when they should be intelligently complaining to the entire writing department.

Wow, didn't know about this so I checked it out. Outrageous what happened there, those people shouldn't be allowed to call themselves fans. The closer developer-fan relation is to ensure feedback not to allow insults to be thrown at employees for statements they made.
I myself was already getting a bit annoyed by the constant doubting of the quality of upcoming games and the constant nagging about changes in the ME and DA series. But this? This is just crazy...

It would almost make a developer want to quit the feedback between themselves and fans. However I hope Bioware won't since there are some fans here who actually want to give positive feedback and sugestions instead of trash talking without making a difference.

I feel that I must point out that, during this argument I have observed, people have tried  to discuss and comment on her work in a respectful fashion - though not always agree with it - and it has been editted, censored or removed. They were polite, made no attacks towards any member of Bioware but, simply stated their criticisms of Bioware, it's recent workings and other choices yet, vanished completely.

I am moved to ask what you would define as a "respectful fashion" as I am under the impression it simply means 'So long as it is positive words along the lines of "This is the best game ever!"'

Though I am an old fan of Bioware I have seen how some employees have reacted towards the futile and childish actions of some anonymous users and I cannot think that it is a good representation of Bioware nor professional in anyway. I think a problem arises when both sides, both the agressors and Bioware itself, lower themselves to flinging mud and insults.

I mean no ill will in my statements, I am merely curious.

EDIT: Fixed a few errors!

There's really no question that the root of this problem is misogyny. I admire the Bioware writers for consistently attempting to address this problem both in their fictional universes and in the real one. Just like I've never seen a critique of DA/DA2's romances that didn't boil down to sexism and homophobia, I've never seen a complaint about Helper that didn't stem from the fact that she was female in an entertainment medium which--as much as "true gamers" hate to admit it--has involved women since its very conception.
