I'm still waiting for an apology statement by Aaryn Flynn, his comments were very unprofessional, when dealing with people that use childish insults you should never resort to them yourself, it doesn't matter that they were insulting her, everyone knows to just ignore bullies

You were fortunate enough to never have been bullied, have you? It gnaws at your insides until you can't take it anymore. Then you just blow up.

But just what can Bioware do to appease these people?

Stop the censorship of BioWare forums and be more open to discussion with people who happen to not like the game?  That'd go pretty far in terms of smoothing things over.  Censoring whatever you don't want to hear results in turning a distraught fan into an angry former customer.

What censorship? Cause from my time here they've been very tolerant of letting discussions criticising them stay open so long as the discussion is civil.  Heck this thread is an example of that.

Do you have links to unjustly locked threads?

Look 7 posts up from yours.  It was a picture of a post before it got deleted.  It was critical of Bioware but civil and thought out.  It actually related to THIS topic, too.

Not allowing image spam is censorship? Its specifically against the sites TOS.

The way BioWare has rallied around Hepler is impressive. Glad you guys stand by your own.

Referring to the moderation staff as 12 year olds on power trips is not civil.

And, as previously mentioned, it was off-topic aside from a brief tangent referring to the situation in question. So let's drop this tangent.

Obviously I don't know what was contained because its been deleted. If it was an image of a post from another site then he can provide a link, so no not censorship.

I feel very sorry for her. Google for  "Lei Maria da Penha" and see what would happen to those doing it to her if she lived where I live. I'm glad that we protect our women with a really strong piece of legislation that can throw a man in jail for just threatening a woman. Even if she lied about it! hehe

Rather sad that it has been taken this far, the people throwing insults and threats at this woman who has done absolutely nothing to warrant them really need to grow up. The anonymity of the internet really breeds some rather pathetic behavior.

I was bullied all the time, i was the guy that would get basket balls thrown at my head when i wasn't looking, it sucks sure but i didn't let it get to me, and these are people on the internet that are insulting them, who cares what some losers like them think? stooping to their level just makes Aaryn Flynn and bioware look bad

Earlier in this thread, like 10+ pages ago, someone else posted a link to that picture. His post was also deleted.

Why is it only bullying when fans do it?

Instead of responding to criticism in a productive manner to open dialogue and maybe change minds- BioWare employee Hepler insulted critical fans by calling them unemployed virgins. That is bullying.

Instead of responding to criticism in a productive manner to open dialogue and maybe change minds- BioWare employee Flynn told a critical fan to perform a sexual act on himself. That is bullying.

I certainly hope the $1000 donated came out of these two employees' paychecks. They are just as guilty as the fans. Set the example- fans have nothing to lose by voicing their opinions. But your company's reputation is tarnished by being brazenly hypocritical for allowing your own employees to bully fans while complaining about the inverse.

I'm just popping in quickly to say that I wish Hepler the best after this abuse and hopefully she'll be able to return to work without any issues. Kudos to you Bioware for standing up for one of your own like this. It is a truly refreshing sight that just improves your already high position as a company in my eyes.

This has been going on for months before Hepler lashed out. If she went directly on the offensive moments after they fired the first salvo, then your position would be more tenable.

Seriously.  Be proactive, not reactive.  They need to earnestly want to take in good and bad opinions, and understand that both are valid positions to take.

From what I see, this is exactly what BioWare do. I don't know where you would get the idea that they censor any criticisms on this thread. I have never seen one thread locked because of it. Quite the opposite, BioWare have always been open to both praise and criticism from my experience on these threads. But this is beside the point. This does not justify people verbally abusing devs. It's inexcusable. It would not be tolerated in any other scenario. These people are just cowards that hide behind their keyboards. There is a very clear line between complaints, and abuse.

Nope, sorry.

Firstly:
Bullying is an act of repeated aggressive behavior in order to intentionally hurt another person, physically or mentally.

Repeatedly engaging in the act is what makes it bullying. Jennifer was repeatedly targetted. She did not repeatedly insult the fans. Basic terminology.

Secondly:
I am not sure how one responds in a "productive manner" to someone calling you a farm animal and telling you to kill yourself. Do you start a discussion on methodology? Debate the theology of suicide? Ask for tips? Tell them they have a point and you will consider it?

Seriously.

There is no excuse for response they gave her and it is right for Bioware to stick up for their employee's, hell I would expect the same defense from my own employers if ever came to such, unless I ate a baby or spent my life throwing kittens over bridges (none of which I do btw).

It's still their forums, their site rules and it's still privilege to speak directly with the people who design the games you might buy as opposed to the old days when the only interface you had with developers was licking the paper of a magazine article about a product or box cover of a game once bought (not admitting to anything).

And no before say it and I assume you want to given style of responses so far, I am not a fanboy. In fact would probably tilt the other way if read my reviews of both DA2 and ME3 demo or take a peak inside the trial (demo introduction)  thread. I criticise Bioware titles all the time but I do for most part always try to keep it as civil as can.

Though I lose my patience rapidly with other people who attack me (personal attacks rather than debate about topic) far too often and respond to baiting a lot which has led to few forum suspensions. But even I know it is a good thing to have a line of communication with them rather than none at all and even though most of my feedback does not seem to alter anything, such is life and I'll still leave it incase ever do take up something I said.

In the end if cannot stand their forum rules or cannot stop self from posting such that is insulting or against their rules then surely there are other places you can hang out instead of here. This site isn't really your "dear diary" site or your own personal website where you have almost free reign, it's their site.

I was bullied to such a degree it lead to me dropping out of high school. And I too wish to get an apology from Jennifer Hepler and Aaryn Flynn. I found your comment to not only be rude but misinformed and wish for you to retract your statement.

This.

Don't let the childish bullies get you down Ms. Hepler. Letting that happen just gives them the significance they obviously crave.
