I'm going to exit this thread now because if I don't I will likely get myself permanently banned from BSN. I just wanted to express my support for Hepler. As a female going after a degree in programming who eventually would love to wind up working for a game company....this freaks me out. And to think everyone is basically saying that she deserves it for defending herself in an offensive manner...wow maybe I won't last because seriously my response would have been far worse.
Contructive criticism is one thing. This is NOT. This is an outright attack on a HUMAN BEING. Seriously...it's sick. Calling her personal phone is not criticism, calling her fat, is NOT criticism. Telling her to go die...ugh.
But again thanks for supporting her Bioware, Kudos.

What sparked it yes, but /v/ seems to be playing both of sides the argument. They were the ones that did the whole Twitter fiasco.

As disgusting as the attacks may have been I'd argue that trying to turn this into some feminist agenda is even more disgusting. She wasn't targeted by these trolls for her gender. In fact, she was the one who brought gender into the equation.

This isn't based on sex AT ALL. I don't get people that say it is. They're attacking her because of her interview about not wanting to play video games.

Most people who are calling her comment immature are not saying she deserved it.

Yes. The issue is that she was being attacked by people who didn't like her writing, but instead of discussing the undeserved attacks based upon the point they were using to attack her (her writing quality) you decide to pick on her as a person in regards to something she said that you don't like. You aren't discussing the attacks on her which is what we are discussing in this post, you are discussing her as a person.

They're attacking hepler because of her THE WORST PART OF WRITING FOR GAMES IS PLAYING GAMES interview she did.

That's why. Inexcusable, but that's why they're attacking her. It's not based on sex, not everything is sexist.

then why not the (male) mass effect team that implemented story mode and made similar comments about story vs gameplay?

the insults being hurled at her were of a sexist nature. it may not be motivated by 100% sexism, but there is an element of it in there, and denying it is objectively wrong.
