A nice response to what has been a series of ugly incidents. Kudos to the folks at BioWare for having their coworker's back.

Some people are just pathetic. I hope Jennifer knows that there are lots of us out here that think she's awesome.

And lots of us who think she isn't.

Not the point.

Point is that she has the job she has, and just because a few [or more] people don't like it doesn't mean it's going to change. So everyone needs to just chill out and continue wasting their lives on games.

I mean seriously? It's sad just seeing how riled up people get over games these days. Need I remind you all that IT'S NOT REAL. It's like someone moaning about pacman being yellow whenever it came out. It's pathetic and if you're really bothered that much by a game I think you need a life. [You plural.]

Somehow everyone managed to take the fun out of gaming.

I thought I'd take this time to clear up a few misconceptions that I've read throughout this thread.
I'll act as a female "representative" for the /v/ community that seems to be getting a bit of stick for this whole ordeal.
/v/ has whole heartidly been behind Bioware since the start, rating it as one of our favourite companies of all time, from the classics of Baldurs Gate to the critically acclaimed Baldurs Gate 2 (Even going as far as voting Bioware as THE best developer of 2011 in a recent awards ceremony).

Obviously, with that said, when the news struck us that /r/gaming had started a vendetta against a writer within the Bioware team we were shocked and outraged.
However, I'd like to state here that moreso the females of the /v/ community were the most out raged. Not content with having life handed to them, White Males have to show their true tone by throwing out ridiculous sexist comments.

We here at /v/ are backing you Bioware. We're backing you Jennifer Hepler.
We want to see Reddit get as much flack for this as possible, it's the least they deserve.

Yes. The issue is that she was being attacked by people who didn't like her writing, but instead of discussing the undeserved attacks based upon the point they were using to attack her (her writing quality) you decide to pick on her as a person in regards to something she said that you don't like. You aren't discussing the attacks on her which is what we are discussing in this post, you are discussing her as a person.

I wholeheartedly agree that all of the attacks on her were reprehensible
The people that attacked her are idiots,
I think everyone that attacked her, called her names, and harrassed her
by calling her fat or 'the cancer that is killing bioware' is an
idiot.

I'll point to those.  All are things I've said so far in this topic.  If that's not enough, here you go:

Her attacks were undeserved.  If people had a problem with her writing quality, they should not have called her, called her fat, bombed her twitter, or attacked her as a person.

At the people saying that "Oh she had it coming because of her writing in Dragon Age 2"

What the-? No one deserves to be treated like crap! NO ONE! You should be ashamed of yourselves for saying that it was okay for the bullying to happen because of her writing in Dragon Age 2? It is not crictism when you are told you can die that is bullying! I think if Dragon Age 2 failed it was because more time needed to be put into it not because of a writer who wrote characters who I loved and that broke my heart.
Did you guys know she wrote most of the Ozammar main quest line, personally I couldn't decided who to support for a week in my first playthrough....I was "I can't choose!!!"
The Dwarf commoner story was her's and that is my second favorite!
I recently learned that she wrote the smugglar in the Old Republic. I friggin love the story line and the smugglar (it is my space spaghetti wrestern)

I wish I could give Helper a big hug right now and will continue to keep her in my prays because she is amazing.

Also I wish that there was a just story mode in video games because I would love my mom to play them instead of watching me over my back.....she watches me with Lord of the Rings, PS3 Dragon Age:Origins.....and Final Fantasy XIII she loves good stories but can't get into the game play. I know my mom would love Mass Effect if she could only play the story My mom loves Science fiction.

Also I would totally have said what she had said about the buttheads infact I wouldn't be that nice as she was!

So yeah. Helper if you read this I want you to know I love you woman, I love you! So keep on being strong and continue to write amazing things.

Just want to voice my support for Jennifer Hepler, the nastiness of some people astounds me.

She was perfectly within her rights to come back with anything she pleased under the circumstances.

And as for the gender crap, females get **** for just saying something.

Both Laidlaw and Gaider have received tons of abuse. This forum used to be filled with posts asking for Mike's resignation. Now Jennifer is the new scapegoat and this is just going to make things worse. Not everything is a gender issue.

There's no way of settling the 'is this a gender/feminism' thing, of course, but I stand firm in my belief that she wouldn't be putting up with a quarter of this nonsense if she had a Y chromosome. I also feel that the hateful responders made it about gender the instant they started dropping sexist terms in their attacks on her. Ugh. Going off to nurse a rage aneurysm.

Yes because HARRASMENT, a serious crime punishable by law, is a viable form of displaying your dislike of someone's ability at their job...

What is wrong with some people on the internet? <_<

It wasn't 'cyber-bullying' it was harassment - Last time I checked, calling somebody at their home to harass them doesn't come under the banner of cyber.

Here's the difference:

Person A calls her a fat ***** who can't write worth ****.   I hate that person and think they are scum.
Person B (me) thinks that one thing she said was disappointing and, in a moment of weakness, she showed some immaturity.

I don't know for sure if she is an overall arrogant person, but that single line sure was.

She does but I'll forgive her if she just quits from video games industry.

People don't have to like Hepler's writing but the attacks she received are uncalled for; no one deserves that kind of vitriol.

Its rediculous how far angry, insecure nerds will go on the internet just to ruin someone. I got about a million things that are better worth their time. For starters, not getting butthurt and taking something completely out of context. Next would actually be searching for a job. After that, moving out of their parent's basement. Etcetera.

Oh man the feminists are coming out saying it's Heplers sex that did it and not her immaturity. This has nothing to do with sex at all.

Oh how Bioware has fallen. They made Baldurs Gate 2, and now You Can Romance Anything: Not an RPG 2 Electric Boogaloo.
