I am among the group that will tell people to come up with
their own ideas instead of complaining with no ideas, so I waited a while
before posting this.

I have a few ideas that I feel will make matchmaking a little better in
multiplayer.

1) Allow groups to merge when matchmaking. This will solve the problem of
joining a lobby then immediately losing 2 people and either trying to 2 man a
Silver, or waiting an eternity. Typically, you have a better shot at jumping
between lobbies which only exacerbates the problem. If there are 2 lobbies with
2 people in them, allow them to merge.

2) Allow someone to join an in progress game if the group is within the first
half (waves 1-5). You could even incorporate a warning before the player joins
saying something along the lines of: You are about to join an in progress
game, press A/X/[Click Accept] to join or press B/O/[Click Decline] to join a
lobby. This prevents people who want to start from the beginning immediately
leaving, and allows us to pick up people when someone has to leave a game
early.

3) Most matchmaking games have an incentive for staying / punishment for
leaving multiple games in a row (Or just the average of all games played). I
believe people who consistently ruin other peoples games by either leaving in
the middle or currently leaving the lobby as soon as it is formed (although if
either/both of the above mentioned ideas are implemented punishment for leaving
a lobby would not be necessary) should be either punished (i.e. banned from
matchmaking for a certain amount of time) or perhaps simply grouped with other
early leavers. When a game is down to 1 person, this obviously would not go
into effect. Alternatively if punishment seems too harsh/you are afraid it will
hurt subscriber base you could give credit/xp boosts to people who consistently
stay in lobbies/games.

These ideas are not perfect, but they are a start.

tl;dr: Make matchmaking faster and friendlier by allowing people to group up
more consistently, and punish those who leave several games/award those who
stay.

Remember this is just a demo. Pretty sure they'll fix all the issues you stated.

But of course, this is mainly one of those "I know this will probably be fixed, but I want to make sure my voice is heard" kind of posts. Can't hurt to post and maybe get a Bioware post telling me I don't have to worry, pre-orders always make me nervous lol

But, the Mass Effect trilogy has earned a place in my heart as one of my all time favorite universes. I hope the multiplayer is allowed to thrive, I hope to be playing this game for many months/years.

1. That would be nice.

2. This already exists, though I don't think it extends to the fifth wave. I've joined plenty of three man games and wound up with a fourth loading in mid way through the first few waves. I feel kind of bad for them, half the time they get instakilled by enemies in the LZ. Refinement would be good.

3. Adding a credit bounty to actually escaping during wave 11 would go a long way in that regard I think. They should also offer bigger rewards if players complete objectives/the entire encounter undermanned as the game will take significantly longer to beat. All of your ideas here are decent though.

Thank you very much, I wasn't aware that they had already incorporated my second idea. Perhaps allow a short period of invulnerability when you spawn in, or rather spawn somewhere within 5-10 meters of a current player... This would prevent insta-gibs.

I think maybe XP would be more useful, as currently one complete game typically gives 3/4 of the credits needed to get a veterans pack, although me thinks this is only so high as to let us get further during the beta period. (Twitter states that beta progress will not roll over to the full version, as is typical of Betas). Depending on what credit/xp gains are going to be like once the game is released, a bounty of some sort (xp, credits, or a combo of the two) would be perk enough... Although I believe we already get a bonus at the end. Could be wrong.

Don't have the glitch where when you search for a bronze game it dumps into a silver lobby or even into a game.

This is their first attempt at multiplayer, its going to be rocky! Just hope they continue to update and not let it die. Thankfully their are few achievements for playing multiplayer so it should have decent support

Indeed I am hoping this is allowed to flourish, given the abilities at hand, I am not surprised they went with a firefight-like mode. PvP would have to be a complete revamp. Once again I love this game and the Multiplayer is magnificent, hopefully they continue to support it and allow it to thrive.

Pretty decent job at the first attempt at MP, lighten up people. Full game will likely solve these issues

It's not like we are over here bashing Bioware, we are simply providing thoughts on a few areas we feel would help, if the time was taken to read the posts, rather than blindly posting, this would be apparent. We have already stated that we feel the full game will likely not have these problems, we just want to ensure they are made fully aware... That's part of what a BETA is... Feedback.

I'd like to add that adding flexibility with private/public player slots would be helpful.

I usually play with one or two friends, and it can be very difficult for them to join a game I host (or vice versa) when all the slots in a public game immediately fill up with randoms. But a private game doesn't work because we also don't like playing with less than a full group. Being able to designate one or two slots in a private game to be public would help with that.

Alternatively, to add on to JohnniBGoode's idea on group merging, allow players to form a group which can then merge with a lone host or another pair.

Because the way it's set up right now, we often exhibit the issues he mentioned in his second and third suggestion. My friends and I often join games trying to pull the others in, and leave as soon as we realize that we won't be able to play there together (often because of the bug where the player is told that the friend's game that is being joined is full, even when it's not).

The matchmaking right now is far from perfect, I have to wait sometimes at least 20 minutes to find a good game (3-4 players), the bright side is that people seems to pair up for a good 2-4 games. My first experience was actually a very pleasant one, as I leveled 1-9 in a series of games with just 2 other people, good times...

Indeed once matched with a good group it tends to last a game or three, I am typically the one that has to leave early (Father of a 1 year old, so naturally, I don't get much uninterrupted time). I'd just like to see faster, less stress inducing matchmaking lol

Once again, fully noted that this is only Beta and that Bioware may already have fixes planned.
